Do you pocket without a clip?

I always leave the clip on a modern folder(its the main reason I like them), but also carry traditionals with no clip.

I've never lost a clipped knife, but have had several with no clip come out of my pocket.

No clips for me! I carry an Opinel # 6 and can hardly tell it is in my pocket. No problems with it turning or falling out of my pockets. I don't need to get in a big hurry to open or lock it so that is no problem. Try not to find myself in a location that I feel the need for a knife for protection. If it happened, no need to make a bad situation worse by pulling a knife and pretending to be worse than the attacker. To me a knife is not a very good SD weapon.

I don't really like modern folders, I carry a slipjoint in my watch pocket. I do not plan to EVER be in a knife fight and deployment speed isn't a worry for me. When I use to carry modern folders I had to have a clip. It seems to defeat the purpose of easily accessible and deploying modern folders to remove the clip. I carried an EKA 8 for a while without a clip and it bugged the crap out of me. I always hated big and bulky/flashy clips though...... ken onion type clips.

It's true that sometimes it shifts to uncomfortable positions but i never used a knife that was more comfortable with a clip than without it and that's the bottom line.
Just my $0.02.

But a comfortable knife lost God knows where is far less handy than the knife still clipped to my pocket. ;)
And I hate, hate, HATE sheaths/pouches for folding knives.

When there´s a clip the knife gets clipped, but just around 20 % of my knives are modern ones, the rest is traditional.

On traditional knives there´s no pocket clip - never had any problem with it.

I don't trust folding knives for self defense.
But in general I prefer to carry EDC with pocket clip, at least I am sure to find my knife where I think it is ;)

I carried a large folder, no clip, in my Carhartt work pants for several years.Back pocket. Spyderco. Fit just right horizontal and all I had to do to pull it was grab the hole and it was out and deployed. I'm in sales now and wear "dress" pants everyday. Pretty much down to carrying a small stockman in front pocket. If I do carry a larger folder it's clipped to my waistband and carried small of the back. Can't have my customers seeing the knife and freaking out:rolleyes: Plus, I do carry it for defense and I personally believe that it shouldn't be seen.
