Just like the title says....I am wondering what you guys prefer between a spear point or clip point for a traditional(barlow) for edc purpose. I am having a hard time trying to decide between the two, and wondering what would be better for all around cutting chores. Thanks for any opinions.

Most of the time it doesn't make any difference to me. Though I tend to like to have something with a point on it, so based on that, a clip blade. Depends on your individual needs and planned uses.

I like both but if I had to choose I'd probably go with a spear. I normally have both on me as I carry a GEC moose a lot.

Spear point! I can give no logical reason why other than my Dad always had a spear point knife when I was younger, and that they're slightly less common. Now a spey blade on a single blade pattern would be neat too.

I much prefer the look of a spear, and they are also usually easier for me to sharpen as an added bonus. With some of the thin clips they seem delicate and I worry about breaking the tip.

I prefer clip blades, mostly from an aesthetic point of view. And clips are usually slimmer in the pocket.

I've got very few spear point bladed knives and many, many with a clip blade. I guess that means something. I never spent much time thinking about it. :)

I tend to prefer Spear blades over Clips but I really don't know why. Aesthetics I suppose. All I really need is a sharp edge. I love a Stockman pattern with a Spear instead of a Clip but they seem to be the minority.

Now a spey blade on a single blade pattern would be neat too.

The latest run of TC Barlows were mostly single-blade Speys. Charlie did an awesome job of packing a ton of blade into a very compact package. I love mine!

As to the original question: I used to only buy spear and still love the athsetics of a long-pull spear. I have however started to really appreciate tall clip blades. Muskrat and California Clips are both kinda boring but extremely functional.

Clip point, hands down. I just find it a lot more useful than a spear point, due to the sharper point.

It really depends on the knife/pattern. In general, the spear has a stronger point and yet has a belly as well as a straight edge..... It's really pretty versatile. I also think it has a more classic/vintage look as well. I don't know if that's why I prefer it, but I generally do prefer a spear.

Clip here. Just looks and feels "right" to me. That's the best explanation I can give!

Spear point.

Some patterns wouldn't look quite right with a spear point though, like a trapper or stockman.

I prefer the look of a spear blade, but oddly enough, if I stop and think about it, most of my EDC traditionals are clip.
