Do you prefer a clip or spear point on your traditionals?

Being that I prefer multi-blade knives, it depends on what the other blade(s) is/are. I must have one blade with a slender point, so clips prevail. But if the secondary blade is a slender pen, or better yet, a small wharncliffe, then a spear main is perfectly fine. Or, even more rarely, a spear main with a pen clip secondary, like on this daddy barlow.

I agree with Jeff. I like knives with multiple blades. I need at least one to have a point. So it depends on what other blades are on the knife.

But that's an educated opinion now that I have carried and used many patterns. Prior to having the luxury of trying many patterns, I carried a stockman for many many years. So at heart I am still really drawn to knives with clip blades.

Clip point for me, although my fav is a modified wharncliff...

Yea, this thread didn't really help my decision lol. Thanks for all the responses and opinions guys, I do also love both but since these Charlows are so darn elusive, one has to make the right choice if or hopefully when i track one down. Thanks again

Up until I got this Ranger, I was all about the spear. It was such that if it had anything but a spear I didn't even consider liking it. Not anymore though. Since working with this clip for the last week and half I have really come to want it more.

Beautiful Barlow Jeff

For my EDC pocketknife I need a main blade with a point (both Speer or Clip have points) but esthetically I prefer the Clip, then I want a Sheepfoot secondary - everything else is a bonus. OH

I prefer a clip.

More useful point than a spear, and still has the belly and straight edge.

I also like its looks.

A clip does everything a spear does, and some things it won't, or at least not as well.

I sort of like the Spear just a bit more, but nothing against a Clip main.

I have one of those single-Spey TC Barlows and it's one of my all-time favs. But then again so is my first run single-Spear TC Barlow :D

Well, I have only one Barlow, and it's not in frequent use. But taking the question as aimed at all traditional knives, folding and fixed, I prefer a spear or drop point over all others.

With some traditionals, of course, you take what you get: clip points on Buck 110s and 112s don't give me pause — but I probably carry one of the drop-point 500-series more often.

Anyway: with me, a strong preference for spear/drop points where a choice is available.

I used to be enamored with the long pull swedged spears. I still somewhat am, but I've grown to appreciate a fine clip point. If I had to pick one main and only one main, it'd probably be a clip.

This one in my pocket today:

Depends on the pattern, but for the most part, a spear, most definitely if it has a swedge and matchstriker pull.

Yea kinda wish I could find a Barlow with sort of a drop point clip type blade like the 73 in a charlow format. Seems to be my favorite but since I am still looking for that perfect Barlow, my options that I like are really the clip or spear.
