I like both. So I did not vote.

I like carbon for the ease of developing an incredible edge.

I like stainless because of its easy care.

I like meat AND potatoes. No reason to settle for one or the other imho. I've got lots of both types of steel and wouldn't want it any other way. So, like Frank, I've withheld voting as well.

Ummm..both. So I can't vote.

I EDC a carbon fixed (traditional styling of sorts) and a stainless slipjoint (a SAK). Both serve my needs.

Carbon. I love the fact that the knife ages with you through patina's, and that it takes a little more responsibility on my part to maintain it. Helps me appreciate it more.

I love Carbon steel, but truth be told, most of my carry blades are Stainless or D2,

I'm in the same boat. Is it just me or was there more Carbon slip joints to buy back in the day?

My next knife buy for EDC's is going to be Carbon Blades in trying to break this trend.

On the other hand there is some great Stainless made today and I work in the rain a lot here and I've become a big fan of the D2 in my Queen knives and will buy more for users.

I appreciate both, and agree that they both have their place. But, there is something about carbon that I love, so that is where my vote goes. It is what I carry most days.

Neither and both. ;)

I didn't vote.

I love the look of a nice natural patina or outright blued blades over shiny steel.

These days I carry stainless more but thats because the patterns i like are only available in SS or the ones I have in the pattern I like are SS.

If we talk Case knives, I can't tell the difference in sharpening, edge holding or use between True Sharp SS and CV... so it doesn't matter, I pick the knife I like.

I prefer different steels over others, IE if its carbon, I want 1095, and would prefer it over most SS, but if its CV then I don't care if it swaps for True Sharp since there's no difference... Same the other way around, if I can have ATS34, or CPM154 then I'll take it over CV, and sometimes over 1095- knife/use depending.

Also depends on where I am going on any certain day, for instance if I know I'm gonna be on the snowmobile all day, if I think of it I'll grab stainless since there is a good chance the knife will be soaking wet most of the day especially if I need it on the trail. Woods in the summer I tend for carbon since outdoor tasks tend to develop lots of color and marks in a patina...

If I'm gonna be in the shop wood working, I like carbon since its usually more forgiving(softer) in hardness, and less likely to chip with thiiin edges for carving.

On any given day I can probably be found with both on me and not knowing it...

I'll go with carbon if I have a choice.

I like a knife that ages and gets charater along with me. I like carbon for its edge holding, in general, over stainless. With the exeption of Buck, carbon seems better, especially in moderate price range working knives like Klass, Boker, Eye-Brand and Case soddies. When a knife has been around long enough for the stag scales to get that buttery yellow, or a rosewood handle gets that deep sheen from a lot of hands on polishing, a bright stainless blade on the knife looks 'un-natural'.

That's why I liked to crocus the blades JK. The stainless looks better brushed

I voted carbon steel. Its just hard to beat a carbon steel edge. That said, I really like the high end stainless out there. Ive got one of each in my pocket, a Sandvick 12C27, and 1095 carbon.

That MM is aging very nicely. The Queens a nice on too. Why did they do away with winterbottom?

I voted for carbon because that's what I have in all my slippies. I love the look of a traditional knife with a good patina. There's nothing wrong with stainless, it just isn't worth it for me unless it's a higher end steel such as 154cm, vg10, S30V, S90V, etc. Unfortunately, there isn't a large selection of traditional patterns available in those steels.

Well I just woke up to see that the current score is 80% Carbon and 20% Stainless!
Great responses folks.....Thanks and keep them coming...

In slip joints I strongly prefer Carbon knives.
Stainless is too boring for the beautiful character, personality, and story a slipjoint will eventually have.

Unless it is a custom :D For some reason I prefer the more expensive slip joint customs to be stainless.

Both. If I focused on one, over the other, the world would be lopsided. :D

I tend to like carbon, for the same reasons most have stated. I love the look of a natural patina, and I like the kind of edge I can put on a carbon blade.

I have some stainless knives that perform very well, but I just can't seem to warm up to them like I do my carbon blades.

Case CV, just like the Case Trapper I am giving away in the dealer section of the forum look for the OkefenokeeKnives monthly giveaway. Cant list it here it will be considered spam and Mods will spank me.

Definitely carbon, but of course I use my stainless blades too.

It depends more on the knife that I want to carry, not so much the steel...I like both, for the different reasons stated above.
