IMO, if the choil is not useable as a finger control while choking up for detailed cutting with a fixed blade, then it is next to useless, let alone something to bother sharpening. I also certainly do not like any choil on a folder as they bring to mind udders on a bull--or something like that.
 
I think a small sharpening choil makes it easier to maintain the blade shape in the last inch. Without a choil, I find that after sharpening over a couple of years, I get a sort of re curve, where the blade should be straight.

Having that small sharpening choil ( as in photo above ) works very well for EdgePro users and is a definite plus for me.

I certainly would NOT sharpen the choil itself.
 
I like 'em just because they make a well-sharpened edge look cleaner. If you have no sharpening choil, the blade often looks unfinished right where the sharpened edge thickens out to form the tang. Nasty!
