Do you read books?

I was recently (1.5 years ago) told of a bookseller that provides many books at a respectably discounted price.

After about a year of looking over their mailings I am sold. It isn't Amazon, they don't have everything, available. However I do like the price and volumes at "Edward R. Hamilton" booksellers.

Ask for a "mailer", check it out. You have nothing to lose.

Almost every book I get these days is on my Kindle. The only bound books I buy are reference materials.

I'm a "used bookstore" kind of guy. I also take up to an hour to browse through the shelves of our local thrift store, every once in a while. I've been able to avoid retail prices for most of my life, plus their coffee prices are insane! When I just need a specific new book, I'm fine being on the waiting list at my library. My wife is always texting or calling, when she's out browsing the thrift store, "Do you need this book by xxx author?"

There are so many book series, authors and genres out there, that there is an endless supply of good books to read. I discover a new favorite author quite often, even though those books may be up to 20 or more years old.

I can understand the used bookstore itch. We have some really good ones on the westside of L.A.

I would say the prices at the proposed book seller compete with them easily. Well, except some of the more eccentric used book stores.

Happy reading.

I read 1-3 per week, but have never been able to justify the cost, even in a used book store. When there is a perfectly fine library just down the street. Anything they don't have you can order from any library in the country (or out of the country, I think...tho I've not done it) Any book I like THAT much....THEN I'll look for it used or online. I refuse to spend money, unnecessarily. LOL

I think you are a good candidate for Kindle Unlimited where you pay a fixed price per month for as many books as you want downloaded to your Kindle.

The reason I moved to a Kindle was first to try it out as I read a fair amount and usually have a book with me. Sometimes I'll have two or three that I am reading at the same time. The Kindle works for this pretty well. Only one "thing" to remember...

Whether or not I want to admit it or not, I used to want this large library of books on display in my home. Status? I don't know. I have filled book case after book case. I finally came to the conclusion that I seldom re-read a novel and having them sit on the shelf to make me feel good is not really worth using up all the space. So, most of my books, except reference books, have been moved to my garage packed in book cartons with some in my storage unit. There are about a dozen or so of these boxes filled with books I'll never look at again. Probably should take them to a used bookstore to let someone else enjoy them.

I read anywhere from 1-2 books a week while the weather is nice. I've read quite a few books from my library, on Kindle, but they don't have all the books. I'll go used on Amazon for books I want hard copies of. I have way more books than I have room for!!

Well, after my mini rant on the cost of books, I still find few things more beautiful than a nicely kept home library. My sister recently sent me a nice Kindle which I'm setting up for use. Still there are a few classic hardcovers which will always have a place.

I agree on both the home library and the kindle. There are just some books I want around in hardback. But most of my reading is on the kindle nowadays. I bought one back when I traveled a lot because I used to take 2-4 books on the plane for a week of working out of town and the kindle cut down on weight & bulk. Now I just need the easily adjustable larger font

I have purchased quite a few from Amazon in the last several years. I could have saved a huge percentage on several of them through the mentioned bookseller. They don't have the same selection as Amazon, but when they do, they beat the price by a large margin.

I'm definitely going to try them, sorry I left that out up above. I have a wish list of books that aren't on Amazon.

I will check them out.

Am I the only person in the entire world to read all seven novels of the Gunslinger series, by Steven king? Lol. Took me all of one entire summer. After I finished I was so devastated by the ending I felt like sending Mr. King a letter. Anyway. good or bad, I think I've read about everything to man has written. Now I'm on a Joh Connolly kick, I especially like the Bousch series.

I am seriously convinced I have read almost every book in our library, and it's a large library.

I used to like going to my local Borders every weekend. I didn't mind the prices and it was a nice day out. I'd spend about an hour browsing for a novel, then grab a magazine. After I paid for them I'd go have a cup of coffee and read through the magazine a bit before going home. After Borders closed, I got a Kindle and haven't bought a hardcopy book since. Also I got really cheap prices on classics. I bought the whole D'Artagnan series for like 99 cents I think. Took 3 months to read, and I think it is the absolutely best book I read. Actually it was 4 books, but still just one volume.

Never even heard of the Gunslinger series, but have read all the Bousch and Mickey Haller books.

I read The Walking Drum when it first hit paperback. I had pretty much read all of Louis L'Amour's books, thought it was neat that after he made such a career with westerns that his best would be based around the medieval times.
