Do you remember when....

You first found the forums? Do you remember how exciting it was for you? Do you remember all the stupid question's that you either asked, or wanted to ask?

Here lately, the general forum has become somewhat boring to me, and I got to thinking.... A year or so ago, all these questions that seem silly to most of us now, would have interested me quite a bit!

I remember a time when a somewhat rare Case knife, or perhaps, a semi-custom Buck 110 was the highlight of my collection.... Then I found all you bastids!!!

Now, most of these things are taken for granted, and the wonderful custom pieces are what turn me on!!! But, there was a time when all these posts were not so silly!

I guess what I am trying to say is.... No matter how many threads I open, and go, "OH JESUS, NOT AGAIN!!!" Deep down inside, I know what the new guys are feeling!

This really is a wonderful place, and I, for one, am very thankful I found it!!!!

Best Regards,

Gene

Me too Gene. It just shows us all how small our world actually is. I learn something here every day. Some of the things I learn here are actually uesful too. Now, if spark would just see his way clear to installing a spell checker for all of us who are 'spelling impaired', the whole world would be peachy. Almost.

Good point Gene, ahhhh how quickly we forget.
The only time I am reminded of how important this Forum is to me is when Spark lets the hamster fall off the wheel and this place is down for a while. Aaaaaaggggggghhhhhh!

Max, I'm with you on the Spell Check thing, I've been asking Spark for months, he says they can't do it. I know for one I look a lot smarted when I have Spell Check, and for the rest of you I could put away my Secret De-Coder Ring.

You bet I do Gene...I tink it was back in '96. I came across a forum called recdotknives. I spent hours and hours there. The along came knifeforums, where I spent more countless hours. Finally in Oct 98 here comes bladeforums...the best yet. I spend alot of my waking time here. And yes, I think we all asked, or wanted to ask the same old questions, because to us, they were new. Everybody here can learn and share everyday, its a great place to hang out. Between this and the chat room, its a wonder I even have time to eat anymore

Great thread, Gene. It's truly amazing the amount of good info you can pick up here in a short period of time. And I think it's really important for those of us who have been here awhile to take the time to answer newbie questions or at least to send them in the right direction (such as reviewing old threads).

I've never gotten bored here, even with all the recycling of threads. People have to start somewhere and BF is about as good as it gets in kindling people's interests in knives. Knifenuts are a minority in this country and the more we can encourage people to enjoy knives, the better.

GREAT thread. It always irks me when someone responds to an old question with a "holier than thou" attitude. Heck, it took me a couple months before I started using the search engine, then I went at least a month doing nothing BUT using the search engine.
There is such a wealth of knowledge here that it's important to guide new members through the ropes; it makes this a better place for all of us.

I remember how excited I was to find the forums, esp since I haven't been here that long.

I have enjoyed every minute spent here reading and learning and still find myself enjoying the many questions asked and answered here.
Everyone(almost) is very gracious with their time and experience and that is why I continue to return.
I can see how it can get repetitive but I still learn from each and every post.
Count me in as a "permanent" member and fan of this awesome place.

I am glad you all like the place. Of all the things I have accomplished in my life, this is right up there! It humbles me to know that you all get so much out of this place, but the cool thing is I in some ways built it for me too. Now I got 7500+ friends! And right now while going through this divorce, you guys are really giving me something to do at night....

Thanks!

Hey, next month is the second anniversary!!!

What about a free T-shirt/hat for all the OCT 98 "founding" members?

Mike, wish you the best.

I know the search function is a wonderful resource but it should not be a substitute for the social interaction we all seem to enjoy here, not to mention the wealth of information and experience that is so freely shared. Yeah, the condescending "GO TO THE SEARCH FUNCTION, YOU MORON!" post will from time to time pop up; most of us just enjoy good folks' company and happen to participate in that gathering thorugh a common interest in knives.

So, anybody have a thought on the best steel, or non-steel for a knife blade?

Sorry.

Free T-shirts for the Oct. ‘98ers?
Turber would go broke. I’m willing to bet I am not the ONLY XXXL charter member! He’d lose his own shirt paying for a deal like that!

Mike,
Sorry to hear about your divorce. First I heard about it. I hope it all works out ok for you in the end. You've done a great thing here with the forums so no doubt you will get a lot of support from us. Good luck.

I know I have made my share of "dumb posts."
But that is what makes this place so great. Thanks to Mike Turber and all of his moderators, new guys can come along and ask all the old questions, over and over, but still be made welcome.

I know that sometimes a new guy is directed to the search feature, but I hope everyone will remember that feeling we all had when we first discovered this place!

Thanks to all!

I actually had more knives back in the day, then I do now, and I blame you guys for that...turns out my collection was not so hot!

I only encountered that holier than thou attitude, and I ended up meeting the guy soon after! He knows who he is!!!

I think about what I used to do on the net before the forums, and I tell you, time was different. I took maybe an hour out of my day, two days a week to look for things that interested me, and maybe look to buy something...

Now...twice a day at least I am on here, mostly just this forum, and I like to post as often as I have something applicable to say.

We are a bunch of nice guys, doing what we like, harming no one...not much more I could ask for.

My only thing is that more women aren't on here. I have two femal friends, both of which are REALLY into blades, and they feel that there are just too many men for them to feel comfy here!

No biggy!

Ditto! Ditto! I love this place!!! I now am the most knife savy person in my workplace, family, church, Dojong, etc. I credit this place for helping me find all the "real" knives available. I used to think 440C was the ultimate steel

, I've learned so much from this place, and I don't think I could live without it.

LONG LIVE BLADEFORUMS.COM!!!

LONG LIVE MIKE AND SPARK!!! and all the moderators too, of course
