Do you save all your packaging?

I still have approx. 90% of my boxes, it has become more difficult with less space available for storage. I stuff them inside one another to save space.

I keep them just in case I resell them at a later date. Even users. I think the idea is somewhat valid even for a used knife. If someone is going to go through the trouble of saving all the papers and packing materials it shows they probably take care of their knives.

it is harder to sell it now as a rare collector if it doesn't have the box.

I would respectfully amend that to say "IT will be IMPOSSIBLE to sell it now as a rare collector." Without the box, it is seen as a used knife. For instance, for gun collectors, the box can easily be worth $100 by itself... for a $1,000 gun.

Bubble packs I throw away once the knife has been removed. Boxes get saved for a while, usually a long while.

I throw them all away because I am never selling any of my knives. And it would just add to the clutter I already have. Its just a paper box...

Yes I do. Except for Busse knives, I just save the cardboard sleeve, cuz that's all you get. I have all my Spyderco, Hest, Benchmade boxes and papers.

Anyone who buys firearms knows about the potential value of boxes. I do save my boxes, but sometimes I wonder why? I have never sold a knife. The boxes do add to the clutter. I keep unused knives in their original boxes until i decide I am going to use it. Then the boxes get dumped into a rubber maid tub or similar for storage.

Would it matter to me if the original box is part of a sale of a "used" knife? Probably not unless it was purchased specifically to collect.

I save everything. The box, paperwork, even the bubble wrap. Anything that comes in the box, goes back in the box and gets stored, except the knife. I don't store my knives in their boxes. And I don't have a good explanation as to why. It's just what I do.

I will say that from a re-sale point of view, even though I have never sold a knife I own, I do tend to think more along those lines with traditional knives. The box just seems to be part of the package in their case.

m.christy, welcome to the forum.

I keep the boxes, paperwork, and any packaging that inside of the knife box itself. It seems to help with selling/trading the knife later if you decide you no longer want it.

Since I try to keep my collection under 15 knives, I don't have a problem keeping them around. Some people with hundreds of knives might find the space for boxes problematic.

All mine are in a tupperware container in the attic above my garage, some knives not in my rotation are up there too.

I used to keep all of my knife boxes, but recently I threw out all of the boxes from knives that I'm either never going to sell or that don't have much resale value.

User knives, no. I toss the boxes.

Knives in the Collection, yes. I save the boxes, original paperwork, and any accessories. For the most part, the knives are kept in the boxes too; they are easier to store that way because boxes stack.

I hold onto the boxes until I decide if I want to keep the knife or not. There are no safe queens in my collection so if I decide to keep a knife, the packaging goes bye bye.

I end up keeping and using just about every knife I decide to purchase though. ......being a dealer allows me to handle just about every purchase prospect prior to buying it.

Now if we are talking a higher dollar purchase with nice packaging like a MKT, then I will hold onto it.
