Do you save your coins from purchases?

I always carry a few pennies. They are a catch-22 coin. The only way to avoid them is to have them to use.

I save my pocket change. I always look through and see if I have anything that's a keeper. If I am lucky enough to find anything it's usually a pre 64 nickel or a wheat penny, that's been over 20+ years of looking. I have saved my coins and payed for my yearly auto registration before, they loved that at the Registration and Title office. I've also bought a few tanks of gas with rolls of quarters over the years.

I honestly don't know anyone who doesn't save their change. I don't generally use cash but when I do I save the change and put it in piggy banks for my kids educations, and I add $100 bills when I can . They have actual savings accounts at a credit union as well, but the change/cash is a fun and easy way for them to see what is adding up for them for the future. Of course my 4 year old keeps talking about using his to buy legos some day :D God Bless the little ones.

On the other side of things, once upon a time I used to use spare my as splurging money. Say if I wanted to buy pizza, extra beer or take my old lady out to dinner or something. (back then knife/gun/ammo money was considered a living expense!) :D

I save coins for small purchases and parking meters. I save and keep pennies and have many pounds worth. I started keeping them a few years back when they announced the end of the penny. That law went into effect last month.

Discontinuing the penny? I'm going to have to look this up. I have heard some discussion about it but I've not heard that it had actually been done.

I do, but don't accumulate as much as I did because I've taken to paying almost everything with the debit card. Used to be I'd bring home pocket change every day, and it mounted up pretty quick.
I've noticed the bank really tries to appear cheerful when I bring in 100 bucks worth of rolled coins... You can tell they don't want to deal with them.

I always sort through my change, but I have only ever found one silver coin, a dime, and that came from turning over the soil in my garden. I save 95% pennies (1982 & earlier), as well as nickels because their melt value is typically more than face. (Right now nickel is down, so they are actually about 1:1, but a copper penny is worth about $0.023.) Maybe a little dorky, but it will be interesting to see what happens in 5-10 yrs, etc...

When I was 15 I had a guy come through the drive through where I worked and he paid with silver. I asked my boss if I could buy the coins out of the register and she said sure. So I got about $400 or silver for $20 :D

I pay cash most times. the change adds up pretty fast and I usually cash it out every couple months or so and get around 90
bucks average. I promptly blow it on fun stuff I don't need, it's kind my disposable savings account.

The plastic covers on blank DVD or CD 100 pack cake boxes make great coin buckets.

I just yesterday got two 2012 pennies from Burger King. I have heard it takes the US mint 2 cents to make a penny, still scratching my head.

Yes, but, once made, a penny lasts for decades, so it's actually a good investment.
