My first knife was a blue Camillus Cub Scout knife. I've tried carrying a stockman at times, and for about 10 years my carry/dinner preparation/tactical was a Gerber Magnum Hunter lockback, but I keep coming back to the utility pattern. Screwdrivers and awls are very handy to have!

No. My first knife was just a pen knife. I now carry trappers and whittlers. I also still carry the second knife that I ever had and that is a Buck 110.

Well I have only been into slipjoints for about a year but can't seem to find anything to replace the Stockman! I may try and force myself into a new EDC pattern and was actually looking at the Scout knife - AG Russell does a neat one! Think I need 3 blades minimum for my EDC

As a kid I carried what ever knife I could talk Dad out of
which was usually a cheap Imperial jack knife. I got my
first really good knife in the military in 1966 when I was
issued a Camillus military scout knife. I carried that knife
until about 1990 when the main pin just plain wore out.

I retired that knife and bought a Camillus made Buck 307
which I carry today. Do I miss the scout? No, because now
I also carry a Leatherman Supertool. What a pair they are!!
Really useful.

My first knife was one my dad gave me on my fourth birthday. It is an Imperial serpentine stockman and I still carry it. Pin cracked bone handles and all. (I was a normal kid that lost, broke or blew up just about anything I had, but for some reason I still have that knife as well as an old bolt-action Remington .22 that dad gave me that year).

The knife still gets good use and that Remington Model 521-T with a Lyman aperture site is still a tack-driver. Not bad after 43 years.

I enjoy carrying the patterns I collect today. Mostly whittlers of all sizes and doctor patterns, but I enjoy and appreciate them all.

Yes. My first knife was a Trapper(I still have it) and I regularly carry a Trapper. The Camillus Trapper in 1095 is a great user. I have the one in tortoise shell celluloid that A.G. Russell has in his catalogue.

My second knife was a Stockman, and I carry one of those quite a bit also, a vintage Schrade-Walden with jigged bone handles.

I went through a period of carrying tactical knives, at least I guess you would call a BM 940 a tactical of sorts. But I'm not a real tactical fellow, so after a brief foray into that genre, I went back to my roots.

I do, however, carry a Calypso Jr. some.

Yep. I got a stockman for my first knife, and it's my favorite pattern.

BTW I noticed someone mentioned the A.G. Russell Premium Scout knife. I just got one a few weeks ago and can't seem to put it down. Might want to check it out, it's a great utility-style knife, and the blade is 154cm, which is unheard of in a scout knife.

the bare minimum for me is usually single blade. i used to just love single blade trappers but now, it includes the sleeveboard/teardrop patterns. (14,15/77,78)

My first knife was an Ulster scout pattern, and although I don't carry it any longer, it still sits on my workbench and gets used every week.

Yeah, the scout/utility pattern is still a carry one. Even if it's a small SAK like a executive or recruit, or some kind of pocket tool/ultility is in the other pocket from whatever dedicated little pocket knife is in my coin pocket. Too many times I was able to fix something out in the middle of nowhere because I had a screw driver or some other basic tool that let me fiddle with the problem of the minute. A stalled out motor scooter, control arm of a trolling motor on a canoe, loose cylinder latch on a revolver.

Yeah, gotta have a screw driver.

Wow, 16-year thread necro. I am guessing *someone* changed their default sort order for threads to "oldest first".

Oddly enough, my first real pocket knife that belonged to me was a red Swiss Army Knife, that I had when I was about 10 or 11.

Today, 50 or so years later, I am carrying a Victorinox alox Cadet. So I guess I DO carry the same pattern as my first knife.

No. My first knife was a cheap keychain knife and there’s no need to carry one of those.

My first noteworthy knife was a Case 6232, Texas Jack, and I still enjoy carrying that pattern. -Lance

My first knife was a Camillus Cub Scout knife. I got when I was 7, T think that was the year I joined the Cub Scouts. I wish I still had it. I did carry it for many years.
Now I carry/wear mostly single blade trappers and sheath knives.
