Do you test your items before they go into the woods?

My property is a testing ground. I love testing and re-evaluating my gear. I often look into my gear boxes and find a tarp, tent, stove, etc., etc. that hasn't been out in the field with the family, so out it goes in one of the 2 campsites or firepits I have here. It eventually makes it into rotation for one of the kids or a family friend that needs to get out in the "wild". I finally need all of it at once. All six kids @ home at one time and everyone wants a night outside with dad, while doing fire skills and so on. So, if you have kids, the gear will get tested.;)

We test the gear we have before every outing , if its new gear or not .

It just makes sense to me to do it that way , since we first had a popup caravan and used it for accomadation when I got work away from home .. we practised setting itup and packing it up before we even put it on the road , when we arrived at our very first caravan park and set it up , and went to say Gday to the other campers , we got heaps of cold shoulder ... one old timer explained it was only because we looked like old hands , while the other guys were new at it ... I guess that was city camping :)

But if we are dragging a caravan , or living out of the car for a trans continent trip , or just going for a few days / week long hike or camp by a fishing spot , we test the gear first , usualy part of that is a night or two camping in the backyard

it means our gear is stowed away in the order itll be unpacked again , this is hard for me to get right unless we do it like this ...

and it also means we know what we have and dont have , what needs fixing , replacing etc ..

Knives are tested pretty much as soon as they are out of the box here tho :)

I cant resist
