Do you think it hurts Sal's feelings when people call his knives ugly?

Even though they are amazing as long as you keep your eyes closed? Case in point: my Paramilitary 2. Amazing piece of engineering. And it opens, cuts, and feels like no other. I guess beauty really is only skin deep.

first, let me say, i love the look of spyderco knives.

i don't think it bothers sal to hear the word ugly because it's usually followed by "it's such a great knife to use". i think it would hurt sal's feelings if someone said they didn't like how a spyderco functions.

People laughed at Galileo when he put forth the idea that the Earth revolved around the Sun.
I'm certain that Sal is just fine with his idea of the way things should be with his own products.

It's basically free advertising so I doubt he holds a grudge too long. ;)

I don't think so, although I'm sure some of the blanket comments by folks who've never actually tried one leave him thinking thoughts he's too polite to ever post. ;) Given that he's commented that "Tractors don't have to look like Ferraris" and considers it a compliment when folks say he "designs in the dark", I think he's comfortable with what he's doing. He's not trying to build art knives, he's attempting to put together highly ergonomic tools. Those who believe form follows function are pleased with the result, those looking for eye candy are not.

I think that Sal has to be secure in his knives performance for dollar. His company pushes the boundaries of Ergonomics like no other. The knives are like a treat for your hand, and such a pleasure to cut with. That is what makes them beautiful. In their performance.

Like a supermodel, that is mean, nasty, and uncooperative. Is a great looking knife with poor steel or ergos or blade grind.
Spyderco is like the ultimate best friend wife woman. Makes your life easier and more comfortable. With her you can be secure. She is the master of baking cookies, keeping the house clean.

Spydercos are beautiful on the inside :D

I personally think Spyderco knives are great looking.

I think most business owners measure their success in growth and profits - thats a sure sign you are doing something right.

Sals been around a long time and has definately earned a spot in the "Knife Makers Hall of Fame".

I do not know him, but from what I have seen in the form of posts from him and interviews - I think he is a well grounded soul and would be the kind of person who takes a positive away from a negative.

No way! They are beautiful to me, and to many others. He knows that his knives are the only piece of originality out there! All but one of my EDC's are Spyderco's. Even my non-knife workmates agree, that they fit the hand better than any other knife. He is surely secure enough in his knife-hood that he is not bothered by this at all. :D

The continuing growth and success of his company probably helps assuage any hurt feelings he might have when an ignorant twerp who's never owned one of his knives says they're ugly.

No way. Besides, his knives are original. No other knife maker out there has more originality. I am in love with my sage. To me it is the most beautiful edc out there. When others have seen my spydercos, no one has made the comment they are ugly. Especially after seeing them slice. Everyone has opinions but as for me, I will keep buying my spydercos. Next time try a knife by the manufacturer before you comment. The beauty of a knife is found in it's performance. Kind of like a wife. Knives are freaking tools. That's what they are. If you want something beautiful to look at, get some flowers.

No. No way. He is above the comments of trolls and takes the high road every time.

It would hurt his feelings if someone said spyderco knives looks good but cuts like s***. Well, spyderco knives looks good and they cut very well, period.

I like the way they look, I guess thats why they are number 1 in my book! I don't look at Benchmades period, so I guess you could say I am a dedicated Spyderco Man.

Since he's knife rich and has a cult of Spydie fanatics, I think he can cope. He makes great knives and knows it. You can't please all the people all the time.

To me Spyderco is to knives what Glock is to handguns. To those that appreciate fine knives they are a work of art in form and function.Supply can barely keep up with demand!LOL,I doubt if Sal and family have much time to get they're feelings hurt as they constantly strive to design knives that take perfection to a new level.:)

I think it would hurt Sal's feelings if someone said his knives were impractical, didn't work, didn't fit anyone's hands well, or weren't sharp.

Hey, I think the people who are easy to hurt with things like that are the people with low self esteem. Sal is definitely not one of those.

Of cause it´s hurts. Out of 100 people 99 says they like you, 1 says he dislikes you...who do you remember?
