Let's face it ya got yer Whine and Cheesers, The Political Forum, all the individual Manufacturers, not to mention HI and the new crowd of newbies that seem to hang together.

Are we separating into our high school cliques?

Where did ya hang in HS, and where do ya hang here?

In HS I tended to hang alone(by choice) but if I had to pick a group it would've been the heads, and here I find myself bouncin' between W&C and the General Discussion forum.

So were ya a geek, a jock, a head, a rah, rah, brain, loser?

I was a headbanger. Long hair, black leather jacket, wallet on a chain, Metallica t-shirt, and work boots. I played in a band, smoked, drank ungodly amounts of alcohol, drove a POS car with a killer sound system and dated girls with big hair and tight jeans. I would do it all over again without hesatation. :D

In high school I didn't hang with the jocks because they picked on the geeks and the freaks. I didn't hang with the geeks because my idea of fun and their idea of same were quite different. I didn't hang with the freaks because the whole teenage angst thing was done to death and made me want to toss my cookies.

I had, and continue to have, a few good friends who were always on the margins of any clique- never really fit anywhere.

As for cliques on Bladeforums I just think its part of being human. We are all tribe animals and naturally migrate to where we are most comfortable. Not at all a bad thing- except when people are excluded from joining in the reindeer games solely on the basis of being the new guy.

Contempt prior to investigation and all that good stuff.

As an aside, I don't mean any of the above in a personal way- all in all, I'd say I've been made to feel pretty much at home here.

I don't see any Cliques. I wasn't in any in HS either. I hung around everyone and didn't have any problems with anyone.

If there are cliques here I sure don't see 'em.

:D

I go to Shoptalk first, then migrate here, to Community. I belong to no group other than I'm a knifemaker. But after those two forums, I'm usually on some firearms forum the rest of my time online.

But to answer the original question, yes, I notice the clique thing going on here, in a couple of places, but I rarely visit them anyway.

I do try to contribute something worthwhile in Shoptalk, then harass people in Politcal and W&C. :D
There's other forums and boards I frequent, but do most posting here.
I do see some groups that post together a lot, and some that never stray from one forum.
There's a lot of different people here with different views, areas of interest, and definitely lots of varied personalities.
It's not boring, there's not too much flaming going on, and people don't get banned unless they really don't behave.
There's a lot going on in this community... :)
I see no resemblance to H.S.

I think you'd have to be pretty seriously lacking in perception if you didn't notice the cliques around here, they're just a fact of life in any place where people gather and communicate. The good thing is that unlike High School, there's plenty of respect to go around, and as long as that's present I don't believe there's anything to worry about.

by and large, I'd say you really have to screw up bad around here for any sub forum to treat you harshly. Unless you go into W&C, but if that's the case refer to the notice at the door.... :D

I wouldn't say "Clique" but rather groups of friends that are open to more people to join. I tear up W&C, The Cove... They help out and there are a few guys that bust eachothers chops in fun. More have joined that group and are welcome to. As for the manufacturers, they have the regulars and from what I've seen, they ALL embrace those who are new with questions or just want to hang out.

There you have it... Not Cliques, Just forum families. It may even give many, like my self, a sense of place when you have a group of friends to hang out with. I have even made excellent friends that give me deals and more importantly.... GIRL SCOUT SOMOA COOKIES!!! :D

Kinda like similar atoms attracting each other.

The similar interests tend to congregate in familiar surroundings where they feel comfortable.

I was half-jock, half-brain in HS. 3-year varsity boxer, but a 3.5 college-prep GPA. :)

Here, I don't see cliques as strongly as I do elsewhere. They eixst, but are weak.

sword u had boxing in hs my school didnt even have football. stupid small school my graduating class had only 32 members in it. funny huh. yeah I see cliques but I agree they arent as strong as Ive seen elsewhere. so its all good.

I guess I'm lacking then. I sure don't notice any. I just see a bunch of nice people. Maybe it's because I'm new here. Who knows.

Do I care? No.

It don't really matter to me anyway. I got better things to concentrate on in life than worry about a "clique" at an online forum.

LOL I mean come on. IN the grand scheme of things this don't really matter. :)

I think you'll have that with any group of people, but I've never felt excluded here. I've seen people here dogpile on someone for saying something unpopular, but that's life.

Yes, there are cliques, but I think they're pretty happy to have anyone join in and as long as you stay more or less within the bounds of whatever is considered acceptable you'll be welcome and happy there.

I tend to roam about and get my thrills/info/laughs wherever I find them.

That's it...EVERYONE ATTACK!!! :D ;) :p

In some instances, it's the result of ongoing posts of past that result in that.

There might be a certain crowd that is more interested in politics and events in the world in general that hangs out in Political forum but as you've surely noticed (to exaggarate slightly), there's hardly any love between the regulars. I mean, politics is a touchy area, most of us can discuss things in civilized manner just fine and know where other regulars stand without them reiterating their views and positions over and over again but it's nothing like the regular community of certain other forums (such as HI for example - with love for everybody :) ). In other words, Politics forum does have its regulars but they/we are split (at least) in two big groups.

About HS, there were only 2 groups in my class (and all the school) anyway - those who drank booze and those who didn't. I belonged to the first group (didn't smoke though and saw little point in puffin' herbs ...), we hanged together and all - the other "group" was really odd, everybody kept to themself until way after out of the HS when they finally joined the the rest of us in the world of hangovers; I was appauled to see how those poor souls tried to catch up with everything they were missing during the HS days, my stomach isn't nearly as good as it used to be and just watching some of them made me sick. Such is life ...

We had 165, more than enough for a championship-level FB team, and a pretty fair boxing squad. :) Yours should have been able to do 6-on-6 football at least- that's how some of the tiny OH schools play.

In high school I was a brainy punk--hung out with the skaters, snuck off campus to smoke cloves, listened to the Dead Kennedys, but also took AP classes, and was a CSF Sealbearer. Here I seem to have gravitated towards the HI forum.

I was both a jock and a musician in HS so I hung with both. My jock friends were wise enough to hang with some of the geeks 'cause they were among our best supporters plus they could help us with our homework if we needed it ;).

I don't hang anywhere specific on BladeForums. I usually do a new post search and pick what looks interesting, usually just lurking.
