Do you think the Forums becoming clique oriented?

I guess I'm lacking then. I sure don't notice any. I just see a bunch of nice people. Maybe it's because I'm new here. Who knows.

Do I care? No.

It don't really matter to me anyway. I got better things to concentrate on in life than worry about a "clique" at an online forum.

LOL I mean come on. IN the grand scheme of things this don't really matter. :)

Quite honestly, yes...you are pretty new here. Perhaps that does affect the way you see things a little. Maybe you're simply considering the wording of the thread slightly differently. Heck, I still very much consider myself a newbie though. In any case, maybe I should have worded my original post a bit differently, so as to ensure I'm not implying gross ignorance or stupidity if you don't see things the way I do.

I hardly believe anyone is necessarily "concerned" with any particular cliques. I sure Haven't seen anyone lining up for a turf wars or anything. (the day I do I'm running fast and far and not looking back) Clique, family, group of friends, mob, buncha bastids, enthusiasts, forumites, cult, tribe, whatever. There simply are particular groups of people that prefer one anothers company, here and in the more common day to day world. "associate" doesn't necessarily mean to the point of exclusion to all others.

Nuthin' wrong with the honest acknowledgement of one's perceptions, but it is perhaps a bit unhealthy to dwell on such trivial matters. Hence the fact that ninety five percent of us don't.

I don't know if I'd say clique as much as just interest groups.

For example, I don't have a whole lot of interest in Tomahawks. I don't think they're bad or evil or irrelevant or stupid or anything. I respect 'hawks and hawk people. Every once-in-a-while, I even read the 'Hawk forum here at bf.c for a few days to just see what's going on on the other side of the fence as it were.

There are 'hawk people who have little if any interest in balisong knives, I'm sure. It's just not their thing. My guess is that they rarely if ever read the balisong forum.

It's not that each group dislikes the other or disrespects the other.

This is why I dislike having to much granularity in forum sites. Having separate forums helps people find what they're interested in and helps keep the lists from getting to long and cluttered. But when you start dividing up a site into to many little specialized subforums, you don't get people mingling.

High School? - everybody because it was a small country school - we only had about 12 in our senior year. I was a jock (using U.S. terminology) but hung with the geeks (my best mate topped our state in the final exams).

Here? Asian and Oz, Spyderco, Community Center and a quick scan of everything else.

Ming my boy, you need to get yourself over into the W&C clique, ( :) ), get into the abuse, insults, laughs, feeeelthy pictures and other nonsense. We even get to bait the occasional troll now and then until the mods catch us and rap us over the knuckles. ;)

I at least don't see the forums becoming to clique oriented but there are
some who share a common interest and do stick together.
I really like W/C and think they are a bunch of funny bastids and peruse
the other forums (I don't think I fit into shop talk very well but I do learn)
IMHO the best thing is very few times is someone ganged up on and banned
unless they are a flat out troll. I think the mods here do a great but unsung
job of keeping everything running on an even keel and that makes everyone
feel a bit more welcome than at most other forums.

Let's face it ya got yer Whine and Cheesers, The Political Forum, all the individual Manufacturers, not to mention HI and the new crowd of newbies that seem to hang together.

Are we separating into our high school cliques?

Where did ya hang in HS, and where do ya hang here?

In HS I tended to hang alone(by choice) but if I had to pick a group it would've been the heads, and here I find myself bouncin' between W&C and the General Discussion forum.

So were ya a geek, a jock, a head, a rah, rah, brain, loser?

I hang with 2 guys, one abuses his meds, and abuses his nasal sprays. There are also a couple of other people that come by us, but I don't even know them. I hang out in the health class room. It's just off to the side of the louder, crazier, more obnoxious friends I have.

I guess I'm a loser. Most of the time, I find myself in the Community forums (just for fun) and the Knife exchange, looking to score a good deal.

For that is where my true interests lie, and there are some awesome folks over there. Lately been sauntering off into the Cove, and dining on some W&C.

Cliques? Well in an upstate NY HS in 1984 I was voted most individualistic,in March, and expelled in April, my senior year. I was a punk rocker in a town with about two other punk rockers and our tastes did not merge(they were more metal, I was more prog-rock).

Now, I pretty much have brothers, and the rest, well, not-brothers. I don't do cliques, wolfpacks, but not cliques.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
