At first I didn't want a Spyderco because of the lockback but with all the praise I couldn't resist trying one... And now the lockback is amongst my favorites alongside the compression lock. All the points Sal mentioned, I discovered and appreciated in my first few weeks of owning a Spyderco.

Love lockbacks and framelocks, they complement each other. They're both simple constructions and sometimes you want the first and sometimes you want the other, depending on the situation.
I'll say this, oddly.
I've had at least 4 women (mother, sister, wife, friend) figure out the AXIS lock and lockback almost by instinct.
It looks like a button; it's the only manipulatable object on the knife; you must fiddle with this thing in order to make it close.
They also have all had had zero folding knife experience.
With me, it's always the guys who want to force a linerlock closed.
