Do you Ulu??

I'm pretty sure that the world needs more of your ulus... That is a beauty! What is the steel?

I use 1095 for the this one. I keep the hardness to around Rc 55 so it can be sharpened in the field with a file. Just like a real ax.

Here is one I made for a customer last year.... I forged it from a 1"x1"x4" block of O1 tool steel... I would use thin plate stock, normally... lol... it was more of "smithing challange" this way, but much more work...

Ulu design is very utilitarian for me. Small one for shirt pocket carries unnoticed.

For beginning knifemakers...or just screwing around...should be one of the first designs tried. Circular saw blade as stock.

Very nice work shown here.

GL - Very nice!

Magnussen - I like the rustic look..

Kismet - Got a pic of that shirt pocket model?

mneedham?

doesn't compare to the artisans' work, but here you go:

Best part is that it can be made with just a grinding wheel, and a fiber cutting disc. Just dip in water often.

Crude, but sufficient for my needs.

Blade protector is auto door trim.

magnussen, yours looks good with the antler and the copper rivets. if i make any more i might have to use some antler. is the antler only on one side?

Its hard to see... I didn't get a proper picture of it, but the tang extends about halfway through the center of the antler....
