yes, i've had knives fall out of my pocket when I was too lazy to clip it back on after i've used the knife. Biggest culprit is probably sitting in a reclining position in a car. If its my car, at least i get the knife back.
i don't do anything serious with a folder, just open packages and some cardboard.
One is a small fixed blade that secures with a lanyard.
The second is a traditional stockman pocketknife - no clip.
The third is a larger Opinel that I carry in a work bag.
I had traditionally used knives, either slip jointed or locking, that did not come with a pocket clip. So when I got my first knife with a pocket clip (CRKT M12) it was like heaven on earth. A lot of my Spyderco's have pocket clips (actually all of them...) and I think that if the clip is designed right, then it doesn't bother the hand when cutting.
i use the pocket clip, but not on the pocket, but on the side of jeans, with knife IWB, and pocket clip under the belt
it also helps to grip on opening
ok, I finally gotta ask...what does IWB stand for?
as for me, definetely big on the pocket clip, it's what makes these knives so convenient. You know exactly where it is, all the time and can get to it when you need it
I can't seem to carry anything on my belt or in my waistband comfortably, so my stuff is always clipped to my pocket; my flashlight and a knife or leatherman. After carrying things this way, I wish I could clip everything to the top of my pocket. I don't like fishing around in my pocket for stuff.
Haveing a clipped folder is a nice convenience but I carry both- sometimes concurrently. I don't think I could go for a traditional folder with a pocket clip., larger modern folders without them, however, seem awkward.
For the most part, I like and use pocket clips. But there are times where I just drop a knife in the bottom of a pocket. I therefore have a couple of knives with out pocket clips.
Pocket, bag or briefcase, a clip is needed for me. The few times it's just loose in my pocket if I'm wearing jeans then the clip is never a problem or in the way.
I don't typically use one hard enough to have the clip be a comfort problem, but I could see that being an issue, Rotte.
