Do you use lanyards?

So I just bought my first Sebenza, and it was the first knife I've ever had with a lanyard, and I think I really like lanyards now. In fact, I just bought some boot lace, and I made a lanyard for my new Gayle Bradley and one for my ZT0200.

Do you guys like having lanyards on your knives or no?

Here is a pic of my knives with their lanyards... Anyone have any critiques on my knots?

For my outdoor knives I use lanyards that I use to attach the knife to my belt, to decrease the chance of losing them while hiking through the woods, but for my EDC knives I don't use lanyards.

No, I don't use them.

Same here, NO Lanyards for me. :thumbdn:

Also, if you want me to work on a knife,

...my rule is no lanyards on knives in the shop.

Power tools and sharp blades with dangling tails do not mix well.

I do use lanyards on almost every knife.

And, Mr. Pres.,

try some other knots. A Snakeknot is a nice lanyard as there are many others.

Most of my EDC knives have lanyards, a few don't. I like them because they make my knife easy to get to when I have gloves on or a tape measure clipped to my pocket.

When I am outdoors (camping, hiking, etc) I usually have one with me just for the little bit of extra para cord. If I have my bag with me I have all the extra para cord I need but sometimes I leave it back at camp because it's not practical to take it everywhere. I've used the couple feet of para cord to fix my boot laces, tie down banking poles to my 4 wheeler, and a few other things. Nothing too major just makes it nice.

The only big draw back to a lanyard that I can think of you be that I can make your knife pretty accessible to others near by. Mine hangs out and over my pocket a few inches and if someone wanted to they could walk right up beside me and give it a pull, possibly without me knowing. So I guess theft would be a drawback.

Edit: My EDC's that I am talking about in this post are my clip on's, I have no lanyard for my "in" pocket knives.

I can't tie fancy lanyards but have one that Dinozzo gave me that I'm using on my Case backpocket. I find it helps keep the knife vertical next to my wallet but it also makes opening and handling the longer knife much easier.
It's like a natural extension of the handle that makes it more secure during opening and use. It's also easier to fish out of a pocket.
Not really a fan of lanyards on modern folders with pocket clips though.

I use the Cobra knot for most of my lanyards. It's easy to learn and leaves you with a very long length of cord.

Some knives I do and others I don't. The ones I do use them on are for when I'm workin outdoors in cold weather conditions:thumbup:

I choose an EDC that I can open and close while wearing leather work gloves in cold weather. I'll be wearing my Carhartt bib's so when I reach in through the bibs it makes locating and extracting the knife much much simpler:)

Otherwise for non cold weather work, just regular EDC I don't have lanyards on my knives;)

I don't use lanyards on any of my folders. My fixed gutting/skinning game processing knives all have lanyards on them, typically some type of braided rawhide. It is more so that I can have it around my wrist when the knife gets bloody so it doesn't slip out of my hand. They also come in handy for me to hang the knife on a nail, tree branch, etc. when I need to move stuff or whatever so I dont lose it, or step on it... lol. This is what I am talking about.

I have lanyard on a select few of my knives. The Sebenza, from what I understand, kind of falls apart if you take the lanyard off. I read that the lanyard barrel rattles around and then falls out. Kinda sucks for a knife starting at almost $400. :(

I've pretty much gone from clip to lanyard, with all the hoopla about visible pocket clips constituting a threat, etc. The knife goes in the pocket (or in a pocket slipsheath), and the lanyard hangs out. Very fast to access by pulling on the lanyard, and no clip to grab attention, or snag on something. I don't make anything fancy, just a loop of paracord and a wooden bead--very low profile stuff.

Normally I don´t use any lanyard. But on my small fixed blades (Izula, BeckerNecker, SubcomFixed etc.) I like them a lot, because the lanyard stabilizes the smaller knives in my hands...

I don´t like that when I there´s the end of any lanyard hangig out of the front/back jeanspocket or the jacket. Sometimes, they are unconfortable to carry, especially on a SAK when the part of knife has to be used on which the lanyard fits.

Kind regards...

I like how they look. Sometimes having that paracord comes in handy. untie it and use it for something else.

Lanyards for some are a substitute for proper form. Using more force than necessary from a blow to a knife may still come back to haunt you. A good solid grip and proper form goes a long way IMHO.
