do you use your traditional knife on the job?

Office worker here. I don't get much call to use a knife at work apart from cutting open the usual envelope. However, I do find myself pulling it out often and using it as a worry stone.

Yeah, I do that also.

I'm a student so usually the most intense things my knives get a workout on is foodstuffs.

I've lost and ruined so many knives at work I now often use stone flakes (I work granite) to hack shrink wrap and twine etc. Occasionally I still carry a folder for trimming conduit etc.

I guess you can't get much more traditional than a stone knife.

I'm a scientist running a full-time laboratory, and the short answer would be just about every day.

I work for a very large package delivering company (Brown) doing Admin work. No "WEAPONS" are allowed,:thumbdn:. I did have a SAK in my drawer at work but figured it was not worth losing my job over.

I have a white-collar job too, but a lot of packages come through, which I happily eviscerate with whatever knife happens to come to hand. I'm the boss in my office, so I can have/ use whatever knives I want. As I type this, I have 4 knives sitting on my desk, one hanging on the wall, 3 more in drawers, a couple in my bag, 2 in my pocket, and a Battle Mistress in the cabinet. That's just today. It's very knife-friendly around here. ;)
The knife that gets the most use around the office is my humble Vic Huntsman. I have a bright-orange lanyard on it, so it stands out among the clutter. It always seems to be right there when I need it, and I don't worry about damaging it. It has performed brilliantly for years.

I'm a landlord and the owner requires I carry and use a knife. As I am also the owner it is a easy rule to follow. :)

I'm a technician, I work on big printers, ie billboards etc. So yeah I use knives everyday. I usually carry a larger locking folder or smallish fixed blade in the back pocket that gets used for cutting big packing straps, heavy (1/2" or better) cardboard, etc. And I always have at least another midsized slippy(medium to large stockman, Med. Jack etc), for all the normal stuff, cutting open boxes, shrink wrap on machines, crates, etc(sometimes the big one depending), and all those odds and ends you run into during the day. I usually carry a small stockman or whittler for more knife averse environments, and cause I like to whittle during downtime, but not all the time.

Most of the places I work don't blink an eye at a good sized knife, let alone the smaller ones. A place that has to cut 5 meter wide vinyl banner material 100 times a day is pretty used to sharp things.

In an effort to terra form your planet to suit our plans for invasion, I tend to need a knife every so often. However, in my current disguise as a software engineer, my use is relegated to opening of packages, cutting fruit, etc.

But just wait, after we become your overlords, I will likely use it more often! Mwua haha!

I carry and use 2 knives every day. A Vic super tinker or climber for the scissors and srewdrivers and a brand new Kershaw Zing for boxes and strapping.

I'm retired now, but when I worked (Community College teacher), I used my knife on the job several times a week. Usually it was to sharpen students' pencils, because the pencil sharpeners were always getting jammed. Funny thing is that nobody (including faculty) was allowed to carry a knife on campus.

I have an old SchradeUSA melon tester, and it got used for everything at work, from slicing bagels to steak knife duty to letter opening, etc. Like kamagong I'd get it out and twirl it when I was really stressed.

thx - cpr

Yeah, I think I would worry if my knife suddenly started talking to me. It would probably have a lot of bad things to say about me too, considering it gets used for EVERYTHING. :-(

I have carried a cold steel Gunsite for a good while, I cut things from edge banding to shrink wrap. My boss used it one day to open a package of crown moulding , he couldn't believe how sharp it was. He was amazed, said that it was sharper than his razor knife. My edc now is a Benchmade activator 201 ,really like this knife a lot.
