When considering buying a new knife. Since I buy online most of the time.
I read knife info on the site I'm buying from and check some reviews on YouTube. What about you?

It certainly has never hurt. I've found that seeing a blade in hand, anyone's hand, helps me decide if it would be something to at the very least try out if I'm on the fence.

Nah I prefer to buy it and judge myself. Guess I’m a gambler but I can just sell it if it’s not for me. It’s part of the fun imo I do watch YouTube knife videos but mostly for entertainment not purchasing decisions.

I always watch reviews before buying and if possible from many different reviewers. Now more than usual when stores here are still closed or online only and I can't check it myself. Even if the videos are in foreign language, at least I can see the knife from all sides and how the action is.

I'm less interested in scores and watch mostly to find out details that specs pages often don't have, like detent strength. Watching multiple reviews help to get better idea about quality and how common problems are with blade play, stripped screws, lockup or edge grind.

They aren't common, but I really like long term reviews. I don't really care if a folder can take robot arm spine whacks or hold a car hanging from it, but I'm very interested if it is still good after a year of normal use.

Not usually, I generally know if I am going to like a knife or not. I usually end up watching them after for some reason though

I like vids that knife shops put up that just show the knife quickly, turning it around, opening and closing etc.

I don’t like the influencer videos because they are just mostly too much blabbering, no actual testing, nitpickey and narcissistic.

Just depends.
The vast majority though, I have not.
Of course, some of the knives I buy, like that Hinderer Eklipse Harpoon Tanto are gone way before a video is made. - Or at the very least you take a chance in loosing the color combo that you would want waiting for a video to come out.

I watch reviews just for the images of a knife I'm considering. The shorter the length of the video, the better.
Once in awhile if I'm bored , I'll watch and listen to an entire review.
But their opinions are usually meaningless, unless it's a QC issue.

I do now. Thank you BF and @NickShabazz . Couldn't have done it without you!

For sure but I realize my taste aren't in line with everyone else. It helps to get a size perspective, to see the action, all the angles and lines and to get some general info. I don't always check 1st but if it's something I'm vacillating about I'll check everything I can find on it and then make up my own mind. I find some things that bother other people don't bother me as much and vice versa. I laugh at Nick, he's a real nit-picker but not sure he's really much of a user and some of his gems fall real short in my world and some of his complaints, well, Nick's not really a man's man IMO. I've been around long enough to know I might really like something someone else doesn't or hate something other people love.

If it is an expensive knife, I won't mind watching couple videos to make an informed decision. Sometimes a disassembly video could tell you a little bit about tolerance and construction, while reviewers playing with a knife may tell you whether it's a good flipper or the thumb stud is well placed.

I watched a lot of Bugout reviews and the occasional SAK review but most guys do a terrible job so they lose me pretty early on in their video. Over the past 20 years, when I bought a knife, it was from a place with free shipping and returns. Shopping at home and seeing a knife in your hand is the best way to see what fits your needs.
