DO YOU WATCH VIDEO REVIEWS BEFORE BUYING A KNIFE

When I first started to buy "modern style" knives I did. I soon found that what most youtubers liked I didn't, usually their complaints were pretty petty and their opinions were what I didn't necessarily agree with. I soon found that my opinion was what mattered so I stopped watching them. Most youtubers are rather annoying, almost like they were trying out for some Bollywood blockbuster. Not all, mind you, some are ok, just not my cup o' tea.

I do tend to read reviews occasionally, from retail sites, to get a handle on any common problems that a new (unknown to me) knife might have. But then again I sift through the rhetoric and decide for myself. Actually, I've gotten good advice from this site, on what the general consensus about a knife I'm interested in is and that helps to prevent me from getting a "stinker".

I typically do. Even if I don't agree with the reviewer it still gives me a feel for the knife that can't be captured in specs and still shots. I actually try to check out every video I can on a knife I'm interested in. For me personally it's part of the fun of the hobby. It's my entertainment, and I most often watch it on the TV while sitting on the couch.

I do, mostly as a previous poster said, to see what it looks like in hand to get a better idea of the size. The problem for me, most knife reviewers take 30 seconds to impart five seconds of information, continuously repeat themselves, etc. You get 12 minute review videos that should really be about 45 seconds long.

For autos, especially OTF. Otherwise, nyet.

The thing is, the people here at BF are vastly more knowledgeable and reliable than YouTubers. Don't include me in that statement though. I'm about as reliable as a Trabant.

Nick Shabazz and I tend to think alike. He figures the best folder around is the Spyderco Slysz Bowie.
Full agreement.
Most often, I buy first and might check out reviews later.

I don't assume what the reviewer is saying is something I'll agree with, but it's never hurt me to get as much info as possible before buying. I watched a ton of reviews of the Umnumzaan before getting it in the mail and I had a pretty good understanding of what I'd like or not like about it. Had no surprises once it got in

If I have any doubts about my likelihood of appreciating the knife, absolutely.

I prefer reviewers who have a consistent format, avoid blather, and make their general preferences -- and hand size -- known as part of their reviews.

I’ve noticed that I’ve been doing it more in the last year or two than ever before.

I like vids that knife shops put up that just show the knife quickly, turning it around, opening and closing etc.

I don’t like the influencer videos because they are just mostly too much blabbering, no actual testing, nitpickey and narcissistic.
This.

Usually yes.
Mostly to see how the knife looks in hand and to gain perspective seeing it compared to other knives I’m familiar with.

The reviewer’s opinion is generally less important to me.

Yes. After more than 35 years of buying knives, by now I know what I'm looking for. So I watch reviews mostly to get a better idea of the knife in-hand, to see comparisons against other standards to get a better idea of proportions, and to get an idea of the opening/closing action to expect. I usually watch the vids at 2X playback speed.

Nope.
I already know what to expect from Rough Ryder, Marbles, (BTI) Schrade, and the other manufacturers I can afford.

Yes, using fast forward and often when muted. I want to see rather than hear.

I don't watch videos before buying knifes. But I have bought knives after watching videos.
