Finally I have my firesteel project glued up, some lanyards made, and the first one going out to Doc Canada (for a trade we had worked out forever ago).

The Red one on the left is Doc's. A Boatswain Whistle Not with square sinnet knots in full para cord to give Doc some workable cordage in the field. The cap is hard anodized aluminum custom made with deep knurling for traction.

The one on the right is mine.

Here is a gratuitous knife shot (I mean hey - I have to stay on topic!).

That is a Kosters Bushcrafter in 3V.

Here are the rest that I need to sell. I am making some in wooden beads that I bought from a member here when he sold me the firesteel - great quality by the way. I am going to make custom fobs for them by the order of the maker at the time of order.

Now I just need to find Doc's address again... ;)

I have some soapstone I have been meaning to make into firesteel handles forever,
Hope they turn out that nice!

KGD:

They feel just fine - they are large enough to hold and do great.

The lighter wooden ones seem to be perfect for putting in a sheath Firesteel holder.

Tal, I feel bad asking, but do you know any links on how to do that knot? You can mail me if you want. Does it hold alot of rope in there?

Fonly,

Stormdrane is great - however - I did a search for 'Boatswain Whistle Knot' and found a .pdf with a great tutorial.

Also - the square, round, and diamond sinnet that you will find on Stormdrane's site may be easier to find when searching for Boondoggle knots. They work the same.

The longer I tie it, ofcourse, the more material. I would say there is something like five feet in there. Not much, but with being able to gut 550 cord you could sew up a wound or tie together a decent amount of fishing line.

Looks like it would be easy to handle, but seems a tab bulky? Is that a 1/4" rod? Did you not like the regular plastic LMF style handles, or did you just want something with more grip?

They look great though, and looks like that would provide a better grip with some gloves on for sure.

Fonly,

I made some with the shell of a 550 cord. DOC's is made from full paracord.

Naked,

It is 1/4 inch Firesteel. I liked the idea of a cap because with very cold or wet hands - the LMF is a bit tough to hold on to. Plus, I had some extra stock and wanted to make something cool. They are not bulky - to me they are nice.

I wanted to make something of gift quality.
