Does an EDC Khuk exist?

It still amazes me that state like Texas would limit what fixed blade you can carry. It used to be in Indiana you were restricted from "daggers, dirks, automatics, gravity knives, and 'throwing stars'". Well, they took out the part about dirks, daggers, and automatics :D

So no throwing stars, but i can live with that;)

Today I have my IBBW stuffed in my back pocket, my ZT clipped to my right, my super handy little Higo No Kami folder in my other, and (just for fun) an M3 fighting knife on my belt, mostly because i am monkeying with the handle a bit;)

I just ordered a Higo No Kami folder myself after Bookie pointed it out to me. Should be getting here maybe this week.

Can't wait to lay eyes on it.

What's an IBBW? I feel dumb for not knowing but I can't figure it out.

Texas has legalized auto-openers recently, and I hear there are efforts to get daggers, dirks, and bowies legalized as well. I'm told the laws on dirks, daggers, and bowies were meant to stop people from dueling. The laws on switchblades and gravity knives came after books like Outsiders popularized the idea of gang members with switchblades and butterfly knives.

Texas is full of knee jerk legislation. We still have blue laws. Funny they singled out the switchblade tho and ignored everything else. We can open carry a shotgun or rifle but not a spear? Figure that one? So far I havent seen anyone open carrying here. My opinion of open carry is it should be legal but why you would want to do it I dont know. Its kinda like "uh!...shoot me first". I have the gun.

Thanks again SG. Thats legal for sure. Aunti Y said she still has the mask and BFF from a while back I thought i won but got SS'd. Apparently I had won it but I just won this Falcata too so I have to pass on it now. She said she will resell them soon so look for another. Maybe they will make some more soon.

My cousin is a police officer in Dallas, and he told me that on the first day of open carry in Texas a guy carrying a really nice and expensive pistol openly got it stolen by another guy with a concealed piece of junk. He walked up behind him, put his gun to the open carrier's back, and told him how much he admired his fancy pistol, and how much he would like it if it was his, and if he would be so kind as to hand it over...?

I laughed.

Doesnt surprise me. No point in flying the flag! Im sure we will hear a bunch of stories on the news in the days coming. Prolly a bunch of knee jerkin idiots wanting to change the laws and everything else:jerkit: Eventually everything will cool down and we can be like the rest of the states.

You'll love that little Higo No Kami. It's no frills, but sharpens to a laser beam. My wife always stuffs a sharp and pointy in my stocking to open first on Christmas. It gets tape and toy packaging duty.

The little Higo is what I got this year. I was actually rather surprised because it had been on my Amazon wish list for a couple of years. I just never got around to buying one. She saw it on there and thought it was cute:)

It helped me eat an apple today at work (New Year, new me....or whatever. I miss my candybars.)

IBBW was supposed to be Itty Bitty Bawanna Bowie, but auto correct thought IBBW was a what I meant:confused:

I got two of the Higo No Kami's in the mail today. Cool little knife. Like you say pretty simple, love the blade shape and the one I opened is pretty durn sharp. At like 11 bucks including shipping from Japan, a fella can't go wrong.
Not gonna pry a car door open like the IBBB but its a pretty strong blade it appears.

I'm sending the second one off to a buddy who sends me stuff all the time.

Show and tell for work tomorrow I reckon.

Dang guys. Why are you all so good at getting me to buy more knives? Couple weeks ago I ordered a Pallares, now I just ordered a M and L Higo No Kami. Don't post any more awesome folders under $20 for at least a week or 2. I'm too weak-willed

But...but..but...
What about the Mercator k55k German made steel bodied lock back or the douk douk? Don't they need homes too;)

Nice try Steely! Haha I'm not a big fan of either of those designs though. Lockbacks don't do it for me, and I just don't love the look of either of them. I still haven't picked up an Opinel, but that's next on that list. Gotta wait for the others to get here first though. Heard mention of a South African pocket knife but I don't remember what it's called and never looked it up. I'm afraid the search will give me links for places to buy one...

Well, then I won't mention the name Okapi;)
I mean, a dirt-cheap carbon-steel beater of a knife that either comes as a slip joint or a bit of a ratchet opener. Sharper than all get out with a little work too if a bit (OK really) rough around the edges;)

I just used my Higo No Kami to open some mail here at my desk, then remembered I brought my Tamang in for show and tell today, so I used it to open an envelope and of course El Chief walks by at precisely that moment.
At his questioning look I reminded him that I don't like to do things half way and some of these envelopes can be tough!

He just smiled and walked away, I think truth be told he's afraid. Makes me feel warm all over.

I love this Tamang, sweet sweet knife. I put some Tru Oil on this one, think it's due for a second coat. Maybe tonight, course then I'll have to bring it back for show and tell again.

Wow! Just looked up Okapi! Some new for 10 bucks or so, many vintage ones at 80 or 100 bucks.

Nice looking knife. I'm ignoring you Steely, your a bad influence. And maybe Bookie too, actually a lot of you folks cost me.

I still love ya though, not in any mano mano way ya understand.

Now we know who Momma likes bestest. I still haven't received my Higo No Kamidog yet! But I am glad we ordered from the last original maker. Today a letter from Japan said he was doing poorly. Kawamura-san thinks that when he quits or passes away, the trademark will be up for grabs to any of the current bogus makers or counterfeiters to snatch up and use, and that they are already using the trade name genericly. Probably should buy a second to put away somewhere as an "investment".

One of the detectives here loved mine so much he rushed right off an ordered himself one.

Mine HigoNoKami is also in the mail on it's way according to the Fed-Ex delivery email I just got :D Figured Bac Si was right and if I didn't get it now I wouldn't be able to get a REAL one.

PS those Okapi blades NEED to have the pull ring ratchet lock or they just aren't right. Mine is an antique which I recently discovered my brother's kids think means "Almost as old as Auntie Shavri" If you do get one I understand the Old African ones are the best. The recent German ones are the next best but lesser varieties. Then the Italian ones not quite as good and the Recent African ones being either really good or really-really bad. Also I think the recent ones from Germany did away with the carraca style lock? but not positive about that.

Shavru, would you mind sharing a link to the Hilgonokami of which you refer too? I'm just curious. I've searched many that make a similar claim but, none are steadfast. Although, I did run across one making the claim but, lost it somewhere amongst many others. I hate when that happens! Thanks much. Jay

+1 (or PM works too)

BigBore, I emailed you the link as I don't think forum rules let me post info about a sale on another site. ChainWhip, I tried to send it to you too but can't seem to figure out a way to send an email. If you message me I will try to send you the info. But if you want to just look it up, I did buy it on the ubiquitous sales site that wants to own the world and plans to ship things via drone. if you look there, this particular one is the only one that claims to be made by Nagao Seisakusho so searching his name on their site should find the right one. I have not received mine yet so can not comment on if they really are Nagao Seisakusho though the details appear to be what I would expect if it is one of his so for the price I am getting one and hoping it is authentic.
