Does any ever feel "overknifed" ?

The is normally a social edc (a traditional slipjoint) of one pattern or another in my pocket but there are also a couple of other knives as well. A Spyderco Catcherman lives full time in the right holster pouch on my vest and another locking folder in the top outside pocket. I consider the locking blades to be emergency rescue tools more than anything else. I have never felt bad however thinking about the cost of the knives I carry...seldom even think about it honestly even tho I quite often carry a custom or two on me.

Cutter17--Name you Top EDC's. If you would.

They are, and in no real particular order;

Strider AR (2)
Kershaw Tyrade
ZT0200
ZT0500
BM 610 Rukus (2)

2 slipjoints;

Case Barlow
Case Gunstock

I also have a Bladetech Rijbak that I carry a little, but not regular, along with a large Classic sebenza with snakewood inserts that also is carried a little but not much, and a Protech TR3 Stainless LE that i do not carry but like it as a tank of an auto!

Current in pocket edc has been a Strider AR and the Case Barlow.

$1200 watch, $400 Todd Davidson Slip, $350 DMK Spektor or $400 XM-18 (weekends) and $100 Northwoods Stockman. Not over knifed, just pocket limited. Steven

When I ask this, I mean from a dollars and cents point of view? I was getting ready to leave the house today and had my Strider PT clipped to my pocket and dropped my Sm Seb in another pocket. As I locked my door, it dawned on me that I was carrying the better part of a grand in my pockets, but not more than three dollars to spend:o This left me with what might almost be called guilt in some way. And I felt kinda stupid as well. I know there are people walking around with watches worth more than my car, driving cars worth more than my house, etc, etc, etc..., but I really got a feeling that wasn't warm and fuzzy. As result, I opened the door and left the Seb.I'm coming to the conclusion that I don't do well with more than one high-end knife at a time. I know, it's odd, but has some level of self restraint taken over me:D:confused:?
Anyone ever get this kind of feeling?

Sorry, I don't get it.

1. Are you worried you will lose the knives while you are carrying them?

2. Or, are you ashamed that you have two expensive knives in your pants? Is it some kind of guilt because you can afford two nice knives?

Thanks,
Rich

My answer this close to the Blade Show is a resounding NO. :D.

It sounds like you are saying that you have too much invested in knives and you are out of balance when it comes to other toys. Solution: buy a nice pistol. I think you will feel better.

When I start thinking that I'm spending too much, I usually rationalize it by comparing it to golf.

"Well it's cheaper than golf - with all those $130 greens fees and clubs and shoes and travel."

When I'm getting close to outspending a golf nut, I compare it to sailing and I feel frugal again.

A few years back I felt weighted down by possetions, so I gave away most of my knives and guns to the kids and other family members. kept a handfull of pocket knives and a couple guns that were my favorites. Sold off exsess motor vehicles, cut down on house stuff. Now we feel a hell of alot better, lighter in our retirement.

Only when my pocket is stuffed full of 'em and my belt is drooping from all the heavy fixed blades.

I don't really think I'm ashamed to be able to afford nice things in life and I should make it clear my financial well-being isn't compromised by a few pocket knives. I guess it's just that I'm crossing over from pure user to small-time collector . I imagine it's different for everyone.

Personally, I became over-knifed when I got my second one. But I'm at the point in my life where I don't need anything more so when Christmas or my birthday rolls around, it makes it easy on everyone to get me another knife. Not that I mind in the least, because I would rather have something that I get some enjoyment out of than some off-the-wall present that is a complete and utter waste of money.

That is a very healthy feeling.

Ok, I see. Thank you.

Now and then I carry a knife that I would be ok using on light jobs but would look for something else to use for rough work, when I rather not scratch the blade.

Oldrifleman said it best--not over-knifed, just under-pocketed.

As for cost, I normally carry close to $1000 worth of knife, but I prefer to think of it like Seattle's Mayor Greg Nickels. Whenever he wants to spend on a new public project, the cost is always 'less than the price of a latte per day.'

$1000 divided by 365 days equals $2.74 per day. Less than a latte.
