does any one here carry an opinel?

*Unpopular opinion ahead*...
If i want a cheap flimsy knife, i will just grab any one of my many basic kitchen knives (which have a better handle anyway). I really dont understand the appeal of the things, but whatever floats your boat...

I often carry an Opinel when wearing cargo shorts. It weighs very little, doesn't intimidate folks, and slices very well. Good blade geometry on Opinels. The stainless is similar to 420HC, and like Buck, Opinel hardens it to ~58HRC. Between the geometry and the hardness, the stainless works quite well for me. Now if I were cutting a whole lotta cardboard, I'd reach for something in M390 or similar, but for everyday cutting, I find the Opinel to be perfectly adequate.

I find the handle on the #8 to be perfectly sized for my medium hands. I've never tinkered with mine other than to soak the handle in mineral oil. I oil the pivots on all my knives, so soaking the handle doesn't seem onerous.
