Does anybody like penknives? If so, please show them here.

Very nice Jack - thanks! OH
Ps It appears that a dedicated Quill Knife had a larger frame than simply having a Pen Blade in a small Pen Knife.

I'm guessing that the quill knife would have been kept at the writing desk where as the pen knife would have been carried in the pocket to give you a portable option?

Maybe the quill knife was dedicated to sharpening pens whereas the pen, with it's secondary blade, was more of a multi-tool? You could have one blade for pen sharpening and another for general cutting needs?

I know absolutely nothing about the history here, and am just making guesses based on OH's observation. If anybody has some insight I'd be interested to hear it.

It's outside my turf, too, Cory. But, I think you are correct.

A lot of "pen knives" had two pen blades. My guess is that the second pen blade was to ensure that a truly sharp edge was always available. Never tried it, but my guess is that you really needed a sharp edge to cut quills properly.

I'll have to take a family pic of my Pen knives especially seein' as how I'm stayin' home with the family, (Mrs. Daughter and her BF) maybe I'll pull out the Pens later while the family's watchin' whatever is on tv and do it... ;)

Took a quick pic of some of my, what I consider "Pen" knives... (some were gifts from some of our members on the porch :) )

Looks like you have quite a variety, and lots of interesting examples, Ted!:thumbup:
I, for one, would be happy to see more detailed pics of many of them when you get the time.

Some nice MOPs there, T.Erdelyi.
I've never seen a ring-opener in person. I certainly didn't know Schrade made any.

Well done, @scrteened porch - this thread is very illuminating, am enjoying immensely - there's always something new to learn with knives, eh :)
