Does anyone actually make what I'm looking for?

Here ya go man. Jury-rig a braided 550 cord chinstrap, line it with old sleeping mat foam and you're all set. Gonna be REAL REAL NOISY when it rains, though.

:D

Hah! I know, it sounds pretty silly, but I'm still enamored with the idea. Just found an old one for super cheap that's in good shape and very light weight for the cost of an average Mora with s&h, so you can expect a review once it arrives. I'll look a bit silly, but I'll be lovin' it. :D

Carry on, bro. You may be on to something, get rich and make fools of us all.

Or maybe just yourself.

:D

Really though, if it works for you go for it. Can't blame a guy for thinking outside the box, right?

Hey, if a tree falls in the forest and you ARE around, what sound does it make when it hits your head? :D Practical, if not fashionable. I could even mirror polish it and use it as a signaling device!

I may make a fool of myself, but sometimes the fool is the one having the most fun. ;)

I like your attitude. By all means mirror that baby!!

Fashion, my behind... when I'm in the woods I might be wearing anything from sneakers and swim trunks to mis-matched camo and a seamless blend of surplus and commercial gear to, well... nothing! :D

Although I've been known to choose my knife of the day based on how well it matches my outfit...! :o

How do you strap pots to your bag? What attachments do you use and how do you prevent them from swinging around and banging into stuff?

No offense from me either, you may be on to something.

For me, I have use mesh sacks to hold my cook gear and strap them to the top of my pack using bungies or velcro straps. This lets them dry while I'm on the move but keeps the noise down.

The pink Izula is for my lady! Just got it yesterday, and she doesn't know yet! ;)

Umm, find a chrome parade helmet and modify it.....get something going like a Castro hat with high polish...use a metal insert inside of a "10 gallon" hat...maybe a reproduction of Odd Job's hat in Goldfinger...or...

sorry, just can't help it.

As previously mentioned I just won this little beauty. :D With a little patch to the suspension it ought to do fine. I'll keep you guys posted. ;)

I've ordered a 10" wok, hand hammered carbon steel. It can double as a gold pan, I'll strap it on my pack like a turtle.

Sounds cool, but possibly a bit heavier than you'd ever catch my hauling on my pack! As far as I'm concerned a backpacking pot just needs to be able to hold stuff in it. I'd love a nice wok for more extended camping though. :)

Since the helmet will be a pot of opportunity when the need strikes and not a dedicated item for when I plan on doing a lot of serious woods cooking, I'm pretty psyched. :D

Two different solutions for two different, yet similar problems! :)

Glad to point you in the right direction.

Don't forget to take pictures. I would really like to see some photos of the hat with a fire under it.

I remember Jethro had one on the beverly hillbillies when he was a double-naught-spy!

But the original was worn by odd-job in James bond.

I think maybe johnny appleseed used a pot for a hat too.

Never saw any of them cook in them though.

I've read numerous accounts of soldiers using theirs to cook in, so that's what sparked the idea. :)

Hey, how about building an Abraham Lincoln stovepipe top hat with a 2 liter pot inside? A top hat may look ridiculous.... until you pull it off and start cooking in it.

sorry, still can't help it

Hah! The jokes on you! I have a vintage top hat from the early 20th century that I wear from time to time and it looks quite dapper on me! I also have a monocle in case you're wondering. And yes, I'm totally serious. :D
