So earlier tonight I'm sitting on the sofa watching TV with my wife and as almost always I have a tool, knife or gun in my hand and I'm fondling, touching, feeling and just "learning" what's in my hand. Believe it or not she accepts this as normal and no longer asks why are you doing that?

Well tonight she was looking over at me and I hear "what are you doing", I without realizing it was just smelling the Micarta on my ESEE-4! WTH?...

I had sold my other (used) 4 to a friend and got myself a new one and never realized that I love the smell of fresh, new Micarta. Now I can't stop holding it to my nose and smelling it, oh boy I need help. :D

Please tell me I'm not alone in this, this must be normal.

you're hooked

Here's a funny story: we went to Colombia and did the cocaine lab destruction thing with the Junglas. Well, while we were there I helped the Junglas cut open bags of coca paste with my folder so we could get it all in one place to blow everything up. I cleaned the knife up and put it back in my pocket. Got home and about a week later I was sitting at a restuarant with some friends drinking beer and eating. I pulled out my knife to cut something and a small white chunk fell out on the table. It had gotten hung up under the lock. It was coca paste :D

That is so funny!

I forgot about that thread here. LMAO!

That smell isn't in my other ESEE knives, just the new one. The others are well used and kind of banged up and dirty. Kind of like that new car smell that never lasts.

I hear ya. Guys like weird smells in general though. I'd wear Hoppe's no. 9 as cologne if I could.

Maybe they will start making those pine tree fresheners for knife addicts to put in their knife drawer.

MMMmmm, that new knife smell:D:thumbup:

I spit beer on the keyboard reading this! Glad to know I'm not alone, sitting on the couch playing with guns and knives:p My wife has also come to accept it as normal behavior, thank goodness. You don't need help, you need more new micarta! I know of a pretty cool way they're packaging it now too, around a kick arse blade!

MMM yeah. Just the thought of Hoppe's No. 9 makes me want to shoot tomorrow. Oh, that's right, I will be at the range tomorrow - and yes I will have the obligatory ESEE knife with me. Maybe I'll snap a few pics to show how much fun I had.

Knife handles , gun muzzles after I fired them ( chamber clear, safety on !) , WD-40 , leather sheaths when they're dirty , my dirty truck.... it's all good.;)

My wife accepts all my idiosyncrasies now without batting an eyelash. ( not that I'm too worried... I do what I do anyways !!)

Yep... you're perfectly normal

Please seek help. Huffing micarta may become illegal in some states. :D
Yeah, I smelled my RC-4.

My name's Moose, and I'm a 'carta sniffer. I started with G10, now I am sniffing micarta handles all the time. I told ya'll, they do something to these knives that make you crave other models. I always have a knife or gun in my hands when I'm just sittin' around also. Moose

I'm forever fondling my guns n knives, but I'm not a new micarta addict like the rest of you wierdos. I prefer the smell of leather sheaths and freshly polished walnut gunstocks. And cordite. And CLP.

I just got my first esse and hadn't sniffed it until you said something about it lol, it's got sort of a sweet smell to me anyway. And yes I'm a gun/knife fondling Guy, I got my junglas and my glock 23 rtf2 on my lap right now

New Knife Scent!

Yep, I'm a fondler too gun, knife, wife, and Hoppes No.9 is the cologne of choice, but snorting Micarta, mmmm, haven't tried it yet, not sure if it will lead to rehab - again - never worked before, probably wont again - must snort some to see...

Thanks for this thread.
I got cought doing the same thing a couple weeks ago. Was my new F-1 3G though.
I was called alsorts of stuff.
I Knew i was normal.:)

You sir are very sick.... the only way to get over this sickness is to order a new ESEE every (other) week untill you get tired of the smell :D

I've got some fresh new black micarta from Swamp Rat this morning. WAHOO! Those looking for the quality of materials, fit, finish and very similar design of the RC4, but a full grip, check out the Howling rat :o Perfect size and blade profile for a companion survival knife or bush knife. The thumb ramp is a tad wonky but other than that the knife is perfect. Same pricerange too! Interested to see how 52100 performs.

I am very pleased to know that I'm not alone with this odd new addiction to the Micarta smell.

I will sleep well tonight knowing you are all as sick I am.

Stay safe my friends.

-Tim
