Does anyone else prefer their titanium handles worn?

I keep reading posts about "spa treatment" and knives being gone for months for re blasting and reconditioning. Am I alone in wanting them nice and broken in? Spa treatment on one of these broken in beauties would be like bleaching your most comfortable pair of sneakers bright white. Or dyeing a broken in pair of jeans dark blue again.

I can relate, but i think my love for the worn titanium comes from working on cars for a living. Nice shiny tools get wear marks, and you can recall the event that led to the scratch, melted handle or ripped grip. Makes them yours and more enjoyable.

I also prefer the "lived in" look myself. The slabs take on a special beauty with a good pocket wash.

In a 1 word answer YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

So many CRK's on this forum and other forums on BF are pristine....have they been used for anything other than opening letters and packages or other very light duty cutting.

I know Chris makes his knives to be Used. We can use our CRK's any way we want to. Some of us use them and some of us USE THEM.

CRK's that are Used are going to get marks/scratched that's what knives are made for.

Ahh yes, this is refreshing to hear. Its one thing to have a collectors piece, but when the CRK is in the EDC rotation it is tough to beat.

titanium, hollow ground S30V, frame lock. it was simply designed for use and they show scars just as we do. Thats the best part. I also appreciate a good wear on the blue thumb stud. you can always tell which has been carried and opened more.

Patina...one of the more satisfying qualities of the high-quality knife/watch world.

I'm not opposed to either way...but I won't go to any length to achieve a worn look.

Honest character is fantastic, a forced patina (or "antiquing") is like listening to a campaigning politician;)

The only one I've got is a plain small 21, and I agree that the bead blasted titanium handles look great worn in. When I get one with inlays, or a CGG one I don't know what the difference will be in preference.

The handle is already worn in pretty good for being so new. The blade seems bullet proof. I dont think I've ever seen a Chris Reeve knife with a really worn blade. Anyone have any pictures of blade wear?

Zeta33, didn't you just get your small seb a couple of weeks ago ? It looks at least a few months with the scratches and marks. :D:thumbup:

I did get it just two weeks back, you're right. What can I say? I said I'd use it and carry it a lot! :D

I like the worn in look as well. After a few weeks of ownership, I toss mine in a stonewash and get a nice even scratch up.

I agree with the OP. But when I first get a new CRK I am loathe to get that first scratch... just because it's brand new and pristine. But once that first one happens it's game on! :) I love the "lived in look". The one exception I make is my Snakewood inlaid Sebenza with the polished handles, etc. I've only had it a couple months...and am not over the "Pristine" worry state yet. It's just so dang perfect and beautiful. :D

I like it, but prefer it to be myself that puts the wear on. I sometimes get knives I plan to sell(fully disclosed that they have been to spa)re-blasted and have a factory edge put on, but this is fairly rare

While I think the "spa treatment" service is a great one, I just don't really need it. Out of all the CRK I have owned, I only ever sent One to the spa. It was the small original sebenza. While the spa made it look new, to me, it just wasn't new. I could feel the difference. The blasting on the scales is slightly rougher. If you handed me a new one and a spa one, I could tell the difference. I don't mind the scuffs as I have always said " every scratch and scuff on your sebenza is an adventure you had with your sebenza". I like snail trails, what can I say. As for the spa though, the service was beyond excellent.

I like the wear marks on my Sebbie 21. All my blades are users, and each mark adds character IMHO.

Agreed-The re-blasted scales do feel different, and I like the original better.
