Does anyone else realize how much this forum sucks?

I can't imagine I'm the only one that has come to the realization that this forum is completely horrible. NOT THE PEOPLE ON IT, but the people who run it and their stupid rules and regulations. Why do I have to wait 10 seconds in between searches? Why can't I send a website link to another member? These are stupid rules!

You poor baby! Life just isn't fair is it? Maybe you could start your own forum and make your own rules?

I believe the door is thataway. It could be that the admin here limits time between searches to keep someone from crashing the system by using automation to run hundreds or thousands of consecutive searches. It could be that they limit website links to keep people from sending malicious links. It could be that... Or maybe they just really want to hack you off...

Demand a refund on your way out the door!

LOL

Believe it or not there's actually very straight forward reasons for everything in life. People just delight in thinking others are stupid or get off on conspiracy theories.

You should be using a good antivirus, DNS, VPN, firewall, addons for firefox like noscript, adblockplus, flashblock and web of trust, and other preventative measures to protect your computer. I'm surprised to see people who argue for personal responsibility in the political forum arguing for what amounts to net nannying by having others protect you instead of doing it yourself. I doubt regular members would include malicious links and even if someone did, you don't have to click on it. If you do click on it and you have some security measures in place, nothing will happen.

I understand the OP's frustration. There are quite a few rules on here that I think are unnecessary, which is why I usually prefer to lurk rather than post. I know it's not my forum nor is it the OP's, but just because the OP doesn't own the forum does not mean he can't have an opinion on aspects of the forum. There's a lot of great information here, and using the forum means abiding by the rules, however silly or outdated they may be.

I think the OP did take it a bit far by saying the forum sucks, because it doesn't. I've learned a lot on here by reading what knowledgeable posters have to say about various steels and knives.

I do, but my measures on my computer aren't going to protect this site or the servers it sits on from malicious attacks, like for example someone crashing the system by using scripting that runs a few thousand searches every second.

Again, my software isn't going to protect this site when someone shows up and starts whining or threatening a lawsuit because of some nasty virus that they picked up on a link from this site. I'm not talking about this site protecting me. I doubt Spark gives a rip about my protection. This site is set up the way it is to protect this site.

Have you met some of our regular members? Not to mention the few hundred new members that sign up every week?

Fanglekai, his problem with links has nothing to do with that. He posted a link to a non-BF dealer, and I deleted it as deal-spotting. Not a big deal, no malicious code involved. We do have a paid membership system that we have to protect, since it supports the site. Many rules seem almost random until you track the reasoning behind them.

I guess ultimately that this is the point I was trying to make. I can't think of too many of the rules around here that are arbitrary or capricious (except of course the ones I keep getting infracted for ;) ). Most of them are in place for darned good reasons and just because someone who has been around for a grand total of a month doesn't understand the reason doesn't make it a good one.

The delay is unfortunate. In an ideal world, we wouldn't have that. But, we live in a fallen world. There are people in this world who write robots which abuse out search facility. The ten-second thing renders it useless for them at a very small inconvenience to human users. Can you really evaluate the results of your first search in ten seconds? Not usually.

9 whole posts to make up your mind? Imagine what you can do when you make a snap decision.

I think every forum I'm on has a delay between searches? Nothing unusual there at all. As for the rules and regulations, no one is making you post here and you have no money invested in your membership. Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.

I'm a member on many forums and this is one the best, if not THE best, moderated forum I'm on.

If you don't like the rules......... leave.
I assure you that none of us will miss you.
