I found a copy at my local grocery store and read through it. I thought it was pretty good. I already get Backwoods Home Magazine which is more self-sufficiency related.

Backwoodsman seems a little pricey (over $20 for 6 issues). Does anyone subscribe to this? Would like to hear your opinion.

I subscribe to it, and advertise in it. In my opinion it has a lot of interesting articles and "how to`s" in it.

I subscribe to the Backwoodsman and enjoy every issue. It's the only magazine I currently subscribe to.

Yeah, I think I remember seeing your ad... I might have even sent for info, too!!

Hmmm.... my magazine budget is about shot, but I have a few up for re-newal pretty soon. Maybe I'll have to make a few swaps and drop one or two and try Backwoodsman for a year.

Thanks for the replies!!

I have been a subscriber for about 4 yrs now and from reading the letters from the editor, it is just about as close to a mom & pop business as a magazine can be. I really enjoy it and don't mind if it is a dollar or two more. Heck, look at the gun rags on the magazine stands....some of them go for 9-12 bucks each!!

I don't but I think that I'm going to. I always read them on the rack though. Kind of hard to look at back issues for references though. :D

I've been reading it since 2002, need to get some older back issues. I have to reup my sub too. I've let Field and Stream, Fur Fish and Game, Blade, Tactical Knives and a few others go out. Other than re upping for Knife World, getting a sub to Wilderness Way, Backwoodsman is it. If I had to choose between KW/WW and BWM, it would be Backwoodsman.

I buy it on the newstand. Interesting, informative and entertaining. Find articles on subjects that aren't covered anywhere else.

Love the mag, and the best of's are awesome to, great info. My wife gets me a subscription every year for christmas.

I like it alright but. Its mostly vintage stuff with some modern articles from time to time. Only thing I dont like is the penny pincher/cheap skate theme that seems to prevail in some of the articles. I also wish they would do some better articles on modern WS&S knives/firearms/equipment and get away from the surplus/junk store/find at the dump stuff.

I started buying it at newstand and after a couple issues said i should subscribe. It's been about 4-5 years and have bought every issue at the newsstand I'm still going to subscribe one day...:o It is my favorite magazine.

Hey shs, have you received an issue of WW lately? Or have you heard anything about it being defunct?

I don't subscribe to Backwoodsman, although I do buy a few issues from the newstand, from time to time. I find a lot of the things are irrelevant for me - don't hunt or shoot (guns) anymore.

Now that you mention it, I haven't found any new issues for a long time. Here's the most recent issue,
