Does anyone have a liner lock or frame lock at 100% lock up?

When a liner lock or frame lock is worn out and moves all the way to the other liner, is the knife still functional? Or is it done?

I have a cheap gift shop knife that is 100% lock up on a liner.

It is still solid.

I'll post pics later when I get home.

I have a cheapo flipper knife that goes to 100% lockup when I really snap it hard, and the worst that's happened is that I need to use something other than my thumb to disengage the lock. I don't believe there's any safety issue, immediately, though eventually I bet the lock will loosen and have blade play.

My younger brother always packed around Gerbers and CRKT folders. When I showed him my first HTM knife he said "Hey man, your lock doesn't go all the way over, is it safe like that?" Apparently all of his knives had locked up at 100% until that point. I do know that he hasn't had a lock fail him yet.

specifically a rat 1. the liner lock is not very thick and there is a space that it looks like it can wedge into if it goes all the way to 100%

I have a 15-20 year old CRKT which has 100% lock up. Yes, there is a little blade play. Otherwise, functionally the knife is fine. No worries about the knife failing. At this poing, it is what it is. I keep meaning to send the knife back to CRKT as there are other issues. All in all, its not even a user knife but a beater knife.

I had a Buck Vantage Force that had pretty late lock up. It wasn't 100% but it was like this right out of the box and it made me uncomfortable at first. Then I started using it and realized it was solid as hell. Ended up giving it away on the PIF threads.

My Buck Vantage Force Pro wore to 100% lock up after a few months. The detent keeps it at about 95% but the blade play is almost comical. It's been dubbed the rattlesnake. It's the only liner I have ever worn to that point. It does fail the light spine whack test, but no worse than it did when it was brand new with acceptable lock up.

Notice that nice even grind too. Probably the most expensive knife I've ever owned that I will say is outright garbage. It is pretty though.

Older Gerber Applegate/Fairbarin covert at 100%.
No blade play or rattle.
It is still a very good, usable knife.
The lock on this knife cannot go past 100%.

My Benchmade 950 Torrents liner is nearly touching the non-locking side. It came that way out of box, but there isnt any lock rock.

I'm noticing a trend here...my Buck Vantage came with 100% lockup, the detent ball touches the opposite liner. I love the blade, and I love the pocket clip, but the overall fit and finish is severely lacking.

I have a frame lock that ended up at 100%, though it doesn't touch the other side. I used it to hack through lots of weeds and small branches, though. It actually was showing some lock-rock, but I took it apart, cleaned and lubed it, then put it back together. It's still at 100%, but the lock-rock is gone. I have every confidence in the knife's lock-up, and it's still in my EDC rotation, though being as it's a Camillus Cuda Maxx 5.5, it doesn't see a lot of pocket time.

I just looked at my RAT 1 and the liner lock is about twice as thick as the washer gap on the far side...so you're probably ok.

My custom Dalton "twins" have settled at 90%. Lockbar faces were carbidized by William Woods. Rock solid.

My Emerson Commander from 2006 is at 100%. It had blade play even before that. I need to send it in to EKI.
