I have 2 of them...the first one was very good, but the second, well not so much. The main problem is that when you close the blade, it hits one of the bushings(for lack of the correct terminology) and puts a dent in the blades edge. I didnt contact the company about this problem, but im thinking I should.

yeah i had the same problem with mine but the real problem was i accidentally dropped it from about 1.5 feet doing something stupid and picked it up it had almost .25 inch of up and down play

i have handled a few byrd knives and liked them i am planning on getting a cara cara 2 soon but would also like to pick up the gerber as a large beater and as i said i gave the one i had away

That is poor quality materials and even worse crafstmanship. SSBlood is onto something, the Byrd knives are awesome. A friend on the forums gave me one that has seen some consistent use with yardwork and it's solid.
A poorly constructed knife is a dangerous knife.

You seem to want it, and so buy it. i am going to give you my opinion, and you have every right to ignore it.

i would not buy a knife that got bladeplay when dropped 18 inches. that is not that significant, and, IMO, the 10-20 bucks you save is not worth the chance of losing a finger to a broken lock. take my advice for whatever you want it to be worth.

thank you for your advice i have thought it over and decided to get something more reliable instead

Since you want a biased answer, I can help

Great blades , wonderful edge retention, comfortable handle, you couldent find a better choice.

Clearly a fluke, not only buy a replacement buy 3

I had one and it dulled very easily. Replaced it with a Byrd Cara Cara 2. Much better choice.

I've got 2 that I got on clearance awhile back for $4.00 each. Decent enough knife, but both of them have the hardest to release liner locks I've seen.

One got stuck so bad I had to slip a Swiss Army Knife screwdriver blade into to push the lock back to close the blade once.
