Never used one, but after taking a look at their website I'll proffer my advice. Whenever I see a square chambered forge with burners pointed straight at he middle it raises a red flag for me. A forge of that design will have issues will hotspots on your work. Not a huge deal to a blacksmith, but as bladesmiths we need to care a lot more about HOW we heat the steel. Also, if you ever have plans of making damascus, the floor of that forge simply won't stand up to flux at all.
IMNSHO, a round-bodied forge with the burner set at a tangent will server you better as the flame will swirl around the outside and allow for more even heating of your work.
I own one, you will have hotspots, but im moving the steel back and forth from front to back, it evens it out well, no biggy, well worth the money on my opinion, aswell i know a few other bigger named makers that own majestic forges aswell, i own the 2 burner knifemaker deluxe, and like it alot
I have a forge very similar to the one you are looking at( Diamondback forge ) and it works quite good for the most part. I agree there are hot spots but that can be worked around and for damascus they are not the best. I like mine just fine, forging in it great you can lay your steel on the floor and not worry about it falling in the bottom, that said if I was going to buy a new forge I would go with a round vertical forced air type. that is what I am planing next. It dose look like a good forge at a decent price...Steve
