does anyone here have a Michael Walker?

Here is my MW which I obtained at the Knifemakers Guild show in Orlando 1988

However, I have absolutely no interest in carrying it. Some other knives I do carry however.

really nice! that would fit great in my pocket and hand :-)

I love Bob and as a matter of fact an ATCF was my first custom folder bought for me by my wife as a birthday gift in 1988 but here are the FACTS:

After 1923 when the patent expired, it was used by other manufacturers such as in the common military and lineman's issue two-blade electrician’s knife; the Camillus TL-29 for the locking screwdriver-stripper blade, until 2007 when the Camillus Cutlery Company went out of business.[1]

Walker refined and popularized the design,[2][3] eventually securing a trademark [4] for the name "Linerlock."[5][6] Walker's main contribution to improve the design was to facilitate true one handed opening of the knife.[7] This was accomplished by removing the weak back spring and adding a heat-treated stop pin to align the blade in the open position.[7] Walker added a detent ball to hold the blade in the closed position using the same spring force from the liner.[7][8]

thank you for that,
as I learned in graduate school the saying - " there is nothing new under the sun" :-)

I guess there can be different interpretations of the facts perhaps?
I think what's relevant to me is that "This invention has truly changed the face of modern pocket cutlery...and full credit is due due him for his contribution". B. Terzuola
MW has had a lasting impact on other makers.

yep, I never could understand the drawer queen concept...
...until you own more than ten and want to sell them to fund others. THEN the condition makes a big difference.

However, that's a sidebar to another can o' worms.... LOL!

Yep, resale/investment is a big consideration!

I know we're really splitting hairs here but to me it sounds like if you have to remove a back spring, add a stop pin and a ball detent then the end result is a completely different animal.

It's like saying someone invented the button lock. Well there are three different button locks that I knew if and they all operate very silently from the other with being button actuated as the only real similarity.

Three different locks invented by three different people that just happen to use the same name.

If walker didn't invent the modern liner lock than Chris Reeve didn't invent the frame lock either.

What about the axis, bolt action, ball bearing and hawk locks?

color ano'd titanium and abrasion are not a good combo.

Concepts......Wright Brothers first plane basically evolved into the Space Shuttle but who's credited for first flight?

Just sayin'.... ;)

Agreed but it goes the other way. The Wright Brothers don't get credit for the Space Shuttle either.
