im new to the forum and new to knive making. i was just wondering if anyone in the new jersey area does heat treating ive just been "backyard heat treating" 1084 from aldo and followed general heat treatments ive ready online- heat past non magnetic let it soak for 5-10 mins depending of thickness and then quick canola oil quench ive had good results ask far as i can tell from the abuse ive giving the knives i made i just want to move on to other steel mainly the cpm steels and some stainless stuff as 1084 tends to get surface rust if left with the slightest amount of moisture not a problem though. also i know alot of people send blades out to peters but i have no clue as to do that and heard it was pricy if you dont send alot of knives out at once. but thanks for any info you guys can help me with i appriciate and learn alot from these posts!-gary
