Does anyone just like modern folding knives only?

When it comes to modern folding knives and traditional folding knives, are you partial to just moderns?

I use my folders everyday and one handed open and closing makes my work alot more efficient.

I like most modern knives. Some older knives have a great look and feel. I use a Benchmade Mini Grip as my EDC. The one handed opening on modern knives is always great.

I like both equally even though my traditionals vastly outnumber my moderns.

I don't want to say it, but I kind of hate traditional knives. Modern is less classy (usually), but it puts convenience over class. Assists, flickable opening, thick frame/liner locks, modern advanced lock (axis, button, etc), deep carry clips, reversible clips, modern handle materials... I could keep going, but my point was clear halfway in.

Modern knives are also generally capable of better blade steels for cheaper prices because of far less complicated constructions. Modern knives are also generally ran at a higher blade hardness for standard production models. I can sharpen, I don't need soft steel.

If anything like modern folders was around when I was young, I wasn't exposed to them... knives (other than kitchen, butchering, etc.) Were pretty much traditional penknives, lockbacks, or fixed blade 'survival' type knives. However I still think traditional folders had some style that may be missing in even excellent modern knives; I think I might eventually look into getting some wood scales made (or even trying to make them myself) if I find a modern folder to settle on. Yes, the convenience of the newer stuff is amazing compared to even 10-15 years ago. Now just to look at, some of the old stuff is very nice indeed... I'm an antique kind of guy at heart anyway.

I have mainly gone with modern-day tactical folders because of the one-hand opening & closing.

I understand why people have the traditional blades, as they are a part of our history.

I have a couple traditionals, and really love my Swayback Jack, but for utility and convenience it's hard to beat a modern locking, one-hand-opening knife. Which is why I always carry one.

I like the modern one handers for ease of cary. I do want to purchase some higher end slip joints. Only have owned buck and case.
Slipjoints are all that were around when I as a kid (I am 43)

The only traditional knives that really appeal to me are sodbusters, for some reason.

modern folders are all I use. I cant stand "traditionals", the look, feel, and size just dont do it for me. I can appreciate that everyone has their tastes, and my tastes are modern titanium framelocks:-)

I have very seldom seen a quality knife that I didn't like. Whichever knife I have in my hand is the one I like. I have both modern and traditional folders and I don't know which I like better.

I started with traditional pocket knives years ago, mostly slip joints, from numerous makers and still have some traditionals, but having found modern pocket knives more user friendly for many of the reasons already listed, a number of my traditionals are finding new owners. I won't get rid of all of them, as I have some uses which specifically require one, but probably won't buy another any time soon...

I like them both. But I tend to like the traditional knives more. I have no real need for assisted opening knives, gravity knives and so forth. But I have some. I went through the flick my bic stage, and now more comfortable with traditionals. My EDC is a SAK if that tells you anything. I rotate other knives, including moderns, as EDCs. The SAK stays.

I love modern folders, but can appreciate the history and craftsmanship put into a traditional, I would like to get one in the future

Yes, I am a modern knife lover. I've dealt with traditionals and while they are amazing knives, I just never carried or used them as much. Modern knives are just my thing.
However, I'm trying to change that up a bit.

I only own one "traditional" style folder. That is my Kershaw Wild Turkey with a Damascus VG1 blade and Ebony handles. That is such a pretty knife, it's one of the few I don't carry in my collection, mostly because it doesn't have a pocket clip. I carry alot of EDC crap in my pockets. So if a knife is just loose in my pockets it'll be banging up against everything else and that Wild Turkey is just too nice to scratch up.

I have been eyeing the little Case Toothpick. It's on my immense "get list".

I'm very bemused as I asked the EXACT opposite question not too long ago and discovered that I love traditionals.

Turns out now a little more into experiencing more knives. I just like knives. If I'm in a suit, which I am 5 days a week, all I want to carry is a peanut pattern. If I'm doing yardwork and branches are involved or rope in my garden then I will want a combo edged modern.

If its recycling day and I'm breaking down boxes its basically take your pick. I usually go for the CE or a Delica. If I'm wearing jeans and just want a nice slim knife it will be a Sodbuster. I've thinned my collection to an Opinel, peanut, trapper, BM mini presidio in CE, Delica in CE. I would consider maybe a mini trapper but not too many other traditionals, as I love the one's that I have. Moderns are wide open though as there are so many different flavors.

I started with modern assisted opening blades then got to where I only liked non assisted and eventually was introduced to the world of traditional knives and then my knife addiction really took off. I still like all knives and carry both but I narrowed my modern knives down to about 3 or 4 and my traditional rotation is at least triple that at any given time and I tend to keep a lot of traditional safe queens. The only knives I hate are any of the fantasy type blades.
