Does anyone know how HI khukuris' buttcaps and pommels are made?

Even humor has a motive, sometimes not apparent to either listener or originator.

Often someone new asks questions that are refreshing. The brass butt plate mystery didn't seem like much at first but it was actually interesting and became a good thread.

When you suggest a lion's head endcap/pommel, would it be of the
'skull crusher' kind, a real hammer?

That would be what I'd opt for if it were available... Obviously, I would not even test its effectiveness, since I'd hate to mar such a beautiful work of art. However, if I needed either a hammer or a skull crusher, I'd have one. If I needed a hammer in a crisis situation, a file could quickly reduced the brass to an adequate striking surface. As a skull crusher, it would be fine "as is"!

I'm fairly new here, and really haven't received much input as to just what can be custom ordered. I am even more intrigued now that Yvsa is raving about how technically skilled Bura is. Some might not like a lion's head buttcap, perhaps not wanting their khukuri to have a "tourist blade" connotation, but I think it's classy, and it would sure be liked by Romans, who have and do use the lion in many artforms. That buttcap John Powell showed us was a shocker... I picked up a few great pointers from Walosi as they relate to getting extraordinary blocks of wood in Nepal in which to have a spectacular handle made.

Yvsa once warned me that I would not find perfection in a khukuri. Maybe not, but I sincerely believe you can get pretty darned close. Even with a presentation grade, one could use the khukuri all day for all sorts of chores, and spend not too much time getting it back to pristine; albeit with a "3 M" satin finish... Once I can twist a certain individual's arm, I'd like to eventually post pics of what I contend is pretty darn close. :)
