Does anyone know if there is a heavy bladed custom like the discontinued Cold Steel Long Hunter?

There isn't any complaint I own 2 brand new originals, I just want a HEAVY Copy sort of, something more substantial. I love the blade.. The long hunter I started this thread about is the COLD STEEL 36PS it was 4116 Krupp and sold for under $30 when they were available. They have been discontinued for quite a few years.
The knives I was talking about were actually made by Ontario and were Carbon V. I guess I wasn't aware of anything later in 4116 Krupp but I didn't have anything to do with that.

Cold Steel made a great series of knives in Carbon V under the Red River name, very similar to what you're looking for. I have an Elk Skinner model, put a moose antler handle on it and did another up for my hunting buddy. Might still be some around.

You know I had forgotten about those, thanks for the reminder.

When I was a kid my grandma would call knives like the long hunter a "butcher knife".
So do we, colloquially. It's still a relevant term. "I can't use this paring knife for this, get me the butcher knife", I'd know what you mean.

Remembering my grandma and her special knives, we were not allowed to use them or the cast iron frying pads. If you did it was big trouble. The pans were superb, but her favorite knives were nothing special. But she loved them
and cared for them. This would have been late 50's and early 60's. But she had them and use them till the 1980's. She was born 12/25/1901. She passed in 1996, great woman and great cook as well.

Oh yeah, it's not about how special they are, it's that they're "Grandma's knives" 😀 I know exactly that kind of matriarch(2)-of-the-kitchen type behavior, my grandmother is much the same way, and nothing/no one can replicate her meals. I am lucky enough to still have her, but I hope we all enjoyed every minute and make the memories last.

Grandmas are the best. 💜

I am 68 years old and some of the best memories I have are her meals and her wisdom. Priceless and my life is wonderful because of those memories and life lessons! I very happy to know you have the same.

I am having one made as I write this, it should soon be finished. Many thanks to ferider
for all his information and help. I will have pictures soon.

Well hello everyone this is my search to find a heavy duty Long Hunter as in the Cold Steel discontinued version. That version was inexpensive and good but not completely what I wanted. The blade shape is what speaks to me. So I posted this question and everyone was really helpful. "ferider" (Roland) sent me some pictures and a recommendation for Paul Rasp CPE Knives. I contacted Paul and we started our conversation "emails". I answered all his questions and sent some ideas of what I wanted.
Here is the first response.

I emailed this off on Mon, Jul 25, 2022 at 1:25 PM
On Saturday 08/06/22 I emailed Paul and asked if he would refurbish a huge old chefs knife I had? He agreed.
On Monday 08/08/22 I get this picture! I was impressed to say the least this was the perfect rendition of a LONG HUNTER.

What a great experience for me, Paul is a true craftsman and artist and he listens and does exactly what he says he will. I am trying to think
up new knives I can have him make. I am 68 years old and traveled a lot of miles, dealt with a lot of people business and personal, I can
honestly say this has been the most rewarding purchases I have ever made. Cheers Paul!! Also a special thanks to Roland for making the
meeting of minds possible. mct54

P.S. Blade Forums is a blessing as well. What a great place to hang out and make friends... :)

Cold Steel has the old Long Hunter back again under a different name. The scalper (commercial series) I have purchase another. This one is a bit better with the handle and molded sheath.
The blade shape is my favorite still.
