I heard that Microtech is stopping production on this knife and is replacing it with a different model. I've always wanted a Select Fire, but I'm not sure if I should snag one up now or see what will be replacing it. If you know anything please let me know thanks.

Hm, didn't know it was going away, maybe I should've kept mine. It's a great knife and I loved it, but it just rode too high out of the pocket.

There has been a Strider/Microtech collaboration alluded to elsewhere, which makes sense given that the Select Fire started life as a potential Strider collaboration.

I'd be surprised at this considering Tony M. already stole the SnG pattern without Strider's permission. Supposedly Mick wasn't too happy about that. I can't imagine Strider turning around a year or two later and giving the thumbs up to Microtech to produce one of their designs. Crazier things have happened. The Select Fire came to be when Tony took that SnG design, cut the tip down, widened the blade a bit, and extended the handle. Viola! SnG is now Select Fire. That's Microtech innovation for you.

None of that is even true. If you see a SnG in the select fire well you have one great imagination.

Where did you hear your information from? Not that I don't trust you I would just like to read it.

As would I. Is there some story behind this?

I guess if you squint? I'm not seeing it though.

This was the prototype collaboration SnG. I think it looks different enough from the Select Fire to not call it a rip off. Obviously has similar aspects though.

By the way guys I just bought a Select Fire on a certain website that I'm sure you guys can find easily. The satin version is on sale for a very nice price if anyone is interested.

Now THAT I can see. And you can see where the SelectFire evolved from that. Thanks for that, I hadn't seen that before.

I guess every knife is a copy of every other knife if the Select Fire is a stolen SnG pattern. That or you need a pair of glasses with a shot of honesty.

You can "choose" not to see it if you like. Denial is easy when dealing with a company that you want to like. If Strider and Microtech are in the midst of a collaboration then I'm glad to hear that they've found even ground for them to work on. Tony M. will eventually screw Strider over and that bridge will be nothing but ashes as well. Give it time.

I don't like microtech. But I dont make up things just because I don't like them. The fact is the select fire is not a SnG copy. The knives do not resemble in the slightest.

Another fact is the only person Tony is not in good standing with is Walter Brend. Tony sucks as a business man. That's known. But there is a new person in place behind the scenes working hard to correct all the past problems.

I'm not making up anything. If you can't see the resemblances between that SnG prototype and the Select Fire, if you can't see that the SnG thing didn't go down well and then suddenly the Select Fire was released, then that's just fine. I don't need to convince someone that doesn't want to be convinced, but I'm not making anything up.

It's like the Apple/Samsung trial all over again :D

FWIW, I think the Select Fire's "inspiration" is pretty obvious. Is it bad that the only MTs I find aesthetically pleasing are blatant ripoffs? Their Select Fire and Whaleshark are the only two models I like.

Anyhow, I'd be disappointed if the Select Fire actually goes away after such a short run. Maybe if Strider and MT ARE working together on a collab, this is a condition of that partnership? I actually considered buying the auto/manual version of the SF, but they were a little too pricey whenever I saw one for sale ($450+ I think). The manual-only version seemed to be kind of pointless for me, as the actual innovation, from what I understand, came from that mode-switching mechanism. Of course, I don't really like autos in general, so I tend to flipflop pretty hard on the SF anyway. I guess me and the knife are both having identity crises...

Tony8179 it is apparent that you have some axe to grind with MT. But stop posting fabrications and trolling everything Microtech.

There is nothing even remotely similar between the SF and a SnG. And the only similarity between the the SnG collab and the SF is the handle. Microtech has been making handles in that style for a good decade or so.

Where is the Whaleshark stolen from? Please humor me with this one.

Here's your humor mr severedthumbs. You must live under a rock!
