Does anyone know of a decent knife shop in the KC area? I know of the standards ... Cabelas, Dicks, Academy, etc .... Thanks for your help

I live in KC and do all my custom knife buying from the forum, or other reputable knife makers suggested by trusted people. I still haven't found a good knife shop around here.

The Outlaw Cigar Company keeps a few higher end brands in stock (North store @ 64th and I-29), with Kershaw, Benchmade, Spyderco, Cold Steel and Microtech. They tend to be right at retail, but they also have some William Henry and Chris Reeve, which are price-fixed anyway.

There's also a "Survival & Gun and Knife Show" this weekend at the KCI Expo center. There tend to be quite a few knife vendors represented, and most will haggle with you, especially if you have NIB knives for trade.

There's a place in Riverside that sells army surplus, and I believe they have a few counters full of knives, or at least they did a few years ago. Uncle Sam's? I think that's their name. May have to Google it. Oops, looks like they are closed.

Oddessy Martial Arts in Independence sells a lot of stuff. Used to be mixed CCC and USA-made stuff, but they were at retail pricing, as well. I haven't been there in 10 years, though. Their online store says they sell knives.

Most of these are probably just a place to handle the stuff, before you go online and buy it somewhere cheaper.

Definitely check out the show at KCI Expo this weekend, though.

I have yet to find anything either my friend...it really sucks, especially since you can practically have any knife you want in the state of Kansas since they got rid of all of the restrictions, but there are no good places anywhere to find a knife.

Honestly, just stick to online retailers or here on the forums, because there isn't anything of all that much note in KC itself or the nearby towns that I have found, at least not that doesn't charge either full retail or above it really...

The Gun Shop in Olathe carries a fairly complete line of BM, and usually at 10-20% off. They also have some Kershaw (limited) but no ZT, and no Spydie either.

I'm in the same boat, though I have not ventured to the north Outlaw. The one out south is not shown as a dealer for anyone, though I have not checked in personally.

Ambrosi cutlery at about 31&Main just south of Crown Center has a good selection of kitchen knives and a small selection of EDC. A few Benchmades, Boker, couple of Spyderco and customs. Usually has an auto or two plus butterfly. Sometimes gives 20% discount for cash or check.
