Does anyone like Gerber knives?

I like the early stuff, have quite a few. Gator in ATS-34, the MK dagger series and the pre-Fiskars multi tools are great. I have a First Production Applegate-Fairbairn folder that is as solid today as the day I bought it. They all served their purpose and I got my moneys worth for sure. I recently picked up a Bear Grylls Compact Fixed Blade on the cheap that has been my beater and has held up and done everything I ask of it.

I've owned Gerber Knives for many years, but agree they went through a period of "bad ownership"....my current quiver includes:

Two Paraframes for daily carry

And a Gator, Commander II, and Guardian, the Commander and Guardian are 1980's vintage and the Gator is an early 2000 version

They get more use than my Buck 110

My first girlfriend bought me a mini-paraframe back in high school. Within a week of light use I noticed that one of the pivot screws had gone AWOL, leaving me with a blade that could jiggle loose and fall out anytime. Needless to say, that relationship folded too...

Even worse then poor edge retention though was the fact that ever time I would sharpen the Steadfast, right at the belly of the blade where it rounds up toward the tip, I would uncover these strange pits in the steal. The blade seems like there is air pockets in it, the result it that it almost looks like a reverse serrated blade now.

My Steadfast holds its edge about as you'd expect from 440A, no better, no worse. I also didn't notice the pitting issue when reprofiling it, despite having to remove a good bit of steel. Just further evidence that quality control is an issue for Gerber. You may get lucky like I did, or you may end up with an abomination like you did. :grumpy:

Exactly my friend, exactly. Poor QC

I picked these up at the store I worked at in 1990 when the knife vendor was swapping out the old displays for the new displays:

I like those very much!

I had a Magnum L.S.T. back in the mid 90's that my stepfather gave me. I was chasing rattlesnakes in outside of Craig, Colorado when it came out of my pocket at some point and vanished forever. I replaced the Magnum with a Benchmade 350 and never looked back.

I do remember it having one of the most comfortable handles I'd ever felt on a knife.

Hi all,

Somebody here at BF must know about Gerber logo's. I was just recently gifted an (I believe) older Gerber Paraframe (large) folding knife and it appears to be VERY nicely made (although needing to be sharpened). I suspect this Paraframe is an older Made in the USA model. My Paraframe is marked with one word (in BOLD print on one side of blade only) GERBER. This is the ONLY markings on the entire knife. Might this be an older USA made Paraframe ? Odd there are no other markings whatsoever.

I have a Gerber Remix that I used to cut about 145' of cardboard and it still shaves. The steel isn't marked, but I'd assume something like 440A. It takes a very sharp edge with not much effort with regard to stubborn burrs and such.

Their like the Rugar of knives (no offence) they haven't had a real good original design in 30 years their just dead in the water and exported their production and sacrificed quality in the process

Had an Instant that I disliked, but I really want a few Silver Knights.
