Does anyone like this knife?

Don't like the company so won't buy ANYTHING from them.

There are better folding karamibits if you want one.

I have to agree with earlier poster that the tanto blade does seem a bit foolish on a karambit, especially a folder. However, something tells me the mall ninja's will LOVE it:D

Well I like it, but I like knives pretty universally.

I wouldn’t however pay for it.

Lol:D:thumbup: You could win the opportunity to get free Mantis knives. All you have to do is learn the art of spamming forums and you're good to go.;)

How true. In that contest, first prize is a Mantis knife. Second prize is two Mantis knives. ;)

To the OP, if you like the looks of this knife, then check out the one that Boker offers, you can can see pics in the Boker sub-forum. I'm not a kerambit type, but I could see owning this one.

i have one of the mantis kerambits, they dont cost too much. its not that bad, but really nothing great. its decent frameloc design, pretty strong. the only problem is the edges of the handle are very rough, making it uncomfortable to handle for too long.

if you are willing to spend a little more, i recomend getting the tarani journeyman karambit isntead, its like 10 times better. the tarani karambit is high quality and very well made. im not really a karambit guy, but i love to carry the tarani.

if you dont want to spend more im sure the boker karambit would be much better than the mantis one

I'm not a karambit type of guy and would probably never buy one but I like that Boker design with the carabiner like clip on the hole. I think that would be a handy feature on many knives.

I'd certainly buy the Boker before I bought that ugly Mantis thing.

I'm not overly fond of knives that are big in handle size and small in blade length. Still, it does what a knife is supposed to do and that's cut. For defense, a blade should slash and penetrate (stab). If it doesn't, you're really sacrificing one of the key aspects of a defensive knife. The Cold Steel Ti-Lite isn't liked by a lot of people, but it does both of the above. It could cut a seatbelt in an emergency, cut nylon cord and put a hole in whatever needed to have a hole in it, and with limited blade real estate. Oh, and it's mean slasher.

If I wanted to have that kind of a blade hook, I'd go for one of those Spyderco Civilians. I really want to have one of those some day, though I will say that Spyderco kind of makes the knife a problem for over zealous prosecutors by saying it's not intended as a utility knife. So much depends on knives NOT being weapons these days, and frankly, yes, I'd use it for many utility purposes. But any knife can be effective in the hands of someone who's trained, so if you like the knife, go for it.

k-bits are just like tantos and WSKs, either you like them or you dont. imo the cinq3(or 2 idr) looks like some sort of hybrid k-bit/edc style blade that could be very usefull in some areas and completely useless in others.
i say go for the boker, its cheaper iirc and looks to be made better.

I don't necessarily have anything against karambits or mantis knives.
But every time I look at a Mantis knife the handle looks painful to use.
And every time I look at a karambit I think it will end up in a drawer never to be used.

Karambits are mainly designed for one thing. SD. But if I planned on
using a knife for an SD situation a karambit would definitely not be it.
It's just too awkward in my opinion. All the videos I've seen are full
of complicated slashing techniques where you have to be way too close
to the person then I would desire.

Give me a straight bladed knife any day of the week. You only need to know
a handful of simple moves to use it well and it's much more natural.
Plus you can stab with it. Slashing is fine but being able to stab
and slash is better. Plus you can use it for utility purposes.

Oh and when the police come and see you with something designed
as a weapon, instead of for utility. they may be less inclined
to see it your way.

Just one guys opinion.

Doesn't a tanto point defeat the purpose of the karambit?

My KaBar karambit is a tanto and a lot of highly reputable CQC's like the Emerson are tanto also. The karambit pistol grip shape is a 'natural' for positioning the blade for thrusting and piercing - which is what a tanto tip is supposedly very good at - so tanto is actually a good choice for last ditch SD, but neither it or the tanto tip are as good as a GP EDC

AFAIK, Ka-Bar doesn't make a Karambit. I think you're probably talking about the TDI series, which is a bit different than an actual Karambit.;)
