Does anyone make a more durable version of this?

Actually that was the one I was talking about. It doesn't fold, but the handle stores blades.

I'll probably go with the Lenox one, though. It folds and locks and looks tough as nails. The real nice thing about it taking reciprocating saw blades is that they're available at any hardware store and can be found in a wide variety of styles intended for cutting everything from foam or drywall all the way up to metal. It'd make a great piece of gear for both a wilderness kit as well as an urban one. :)

Are you finding the one linked to on the Lenox site? I looked around last night and only saw a different model that had a different style grip.

I can't find that one, but maybe it was a recent design change. Either version looks great though, especially for the price. :)

That's fine, and most appreciated. It just happened to be off the mark for what I was looking for. :)

FortyTwo, I've got one that takes reciprocating (Sawzall style) saw blades, stores extras in the handle, and folds. Its made by Craftsman, not as robust as I'd like to see, but it works. I got mine at Mardens in Calais for a couple of bucks. That was some years back, don't know if they still have them, but maybe Sears still does.

Got a picture? It'd be nice to know what it looks like at least. I'm almost certainly getting the Lenox one though. As soon as my federal tax return (finally) comes in I think...:)

I would love to add something like this nifty thing to my kit, but it feels flimsier than I'd like. Does anyone else make something like this (or similar) that's a bit tougher?

It takes reciprocating saw blades and folds like a pocket knife.

Do you want this style of saw to use different blades from metal to wood?
Any reciprocating saw blade will break or bend at the weakest point which is the inset to the handle
I have used saws like this for construction, and they are not robust.

If you only want to cut wood, there are much better and stronger folding saws on the market, like Silky

I want it specifically for the versatility of being able to cut both wood and metal, as well as the wide availability and low cost of the blades. I have a Fiskars sliding saw and a Trailblazer saw, and plan on getting a Silky as soon as I get a few (ok a bunch!) of other things off my to-buy list.

It would be for making cuts when I'm out and about and have nothing better on me. A handful of extra blades weighs very little, and would allow me to get the job done even if I have to be a little more careful when I make the cut. I'm well aware of the low durability of the blades, but thanks for the warning anyhow. Your advice will likely be handy for others following the thread. :)

Forty Two, sorry for the slow response, I've been out of town. I'm a computer moron and have had zero luck posting pics. Would be happy to e-mail you one if you provide a place to send it.

I'm looking specifically for a stand-alone folding pocket saw that accepts reciprocating saw blades.

That Lenox one looks nice! Thanks for the tip!

i was looking for one too - didn't find it.

i will probably have to make a handle and just get a long bi-metal demo blade and call her done.

I saw one just recently at Home Depot (or Lowe's... can't remember which) that was very much like the Lenox one that SuicideFO posted. It wasn't quite the same (it was a little flatter), but close enough. I put it on my mental Buy This Later list. I think it was only around $8. Looked pretty sturdy, too.

Hey, Vec, did you check the Home Depot out on Fairmont? (just off of 8). I think that's where I saw one (either there or Lowe's in the Valley).

I was at a Lowe's yesterday and decided to see if they had the Lenox one. Lot's of Lenox blades, but they didn't have the saw, so I don't think they carry it...

The one I saw wasn't the Lenox one. It looked a lot like it, but the handle was flatter. It was in a blister pack with a couple of blades.

Next time I get out there, I'll check again. It may be awhile, though.

Accepts any "Sawzall" blade. Very sturdy, but a bit heavy as a result.

I bought the folding MXZ saw at BJ's a couple of years ago and the handle portion is well made but the carbide blade is pretty useless and couldn't cut warm butter. Luckily, the handle accepts sawzall type blades, so this makes it worth the price.

i thought i saw one at the Sports Arena Home Depot a while ago - but no joy when i came back through....

i've been wanting to make one anyways - it'll be a good Sunday project when i am not supposed to be working.......

i wanted to try a cross handle, like on a push knife.
