Ever sense I saw a picture of the limited run 690 with Damasteel and ivory scales I've been searching for one. Well, the other day I found it! Couldn't beleive it. It should be here early next week. My excitement growing day by day. Dang mail

Congrats on finding one! I found one about a month ago and it is superb. Near custom in quality. Good luck with it.:D

I never understood the demand for a wood-scaled liner lock. Isn't there a significant portion of wood scale on the lock side that doesn't have the steel reinforcement because of the method of liner locks pulling away from the scale while the blade is opened?

I can see this as not being an issue for most tactical liner lock knives, since most of them are G-10 scaled, and quite tough. But a 1/16" (?)wood-scaled knife with a liner lock would seem quite vulnerable on the locking side, prone to cracking under pressure. No?

I for one am not a big fan of wood scales as handles. Inlays are OK, i.e., Chris Reeve Sebenza's. But I prefer something more solid on knives such as say...the 690, which is why I opted to wait till I found one with Damascus and imitation ivory scales.

As far as the strength and durablity of the wood on the 690; I don't think it's an issue. The wood has been stabilized for one, and too put so much preasure on the part of the wood that is not covered by the liner as to break it? I don't think this would be a factor. Maybe if you squeezed(?) the handle as hard as you could, maybe! If this something that would be relatively common, I wouldn't think Benchmade would put them out. You would be more likely to break the blade of a knife before the handle. Just my .02:)
