This is one for the old skool people or the super faithful. I haven't carried my Spyderco Police SS in a longtime, partly thanks to a Greco Falcon. So I picked it up again over Christmas break to give it a reevalution. The Police used to the thing before the 710 and the Sebbies. The thing that always held me back was the grip. I am curious if anyone still edc it and what they think about it.

Thanks

I'm still very fond of my Police and my Civilian.

Got my Police in 1990 and carried it daily until early 2004—when it got replaced by a SERE 2K.

It was a very good knife for its day, and kept doing its thing efficiently and reliably.

The main reason I kept carrying it was because it was large and had a narrow profile.

The handle was never very comfortable, but more comfortable than a lot of pretty knives that I chose not to carry every day.

If the Spydie Police had a more "lefty-friendly" pocket clip, I still might be carrying one, but since it doesn't, my Benchmade 805(s) will remain as my "defensive/offensive" EDC.

I love my CF Police, but I found that the scales were just too slick to hang onto. I can't bear to part with it, but it's no longer in the EDC rotation. Instead I carry a BM 800SBT.

I carry a SE Police Model every day. I like to have an SE blade around, even though I don't need it as often as a PE blade. The narrow, flat handle of the Police Model makes it easy to carry in my back pocket where it is easily accessible for occasional use. The knife in my front pocket rotates depending on my mood (SMF, Sebenza, Surefire Alpha), but the SE Police is ALWAYS with me.

It's now my saturday night knife when my Manix feels a little bit to bulky :D

I bought it some 10 years ago a SS GIN1 SE + lanyard hole and edc-ed it through college and military service.

It's my only SE knife and I'm still very fond of it.

I don't carry it every day, but most of the time I carry my old and beaten up g10 police with the flat ground ats-55 blade in my pocket while at work. Its still the sharpest knife I own and even I can get it shaving sharp without trouble. Great knife. If I didn't have so many and want to justify owning them it would be my EDC. Definately my favorite though the Persian and the BM TSEK are close on its heels.

yup, been EDC'ing it for the last couple of months. soon i will receive an ATR and it'll probably replace it.

I have two versions of the same knife. PE and SE. Carried them both a good while. Both in VG10. Trying right now to trade both for a MOD Tempest PE. That being said I have to say they are very comfortable carry knives. Slim profile and long and lean. Excellant slicers and penetrators. Lock up on both is par excallance for lock back knives. The VG10 gets very sharp and is easy to keep that way. Solved the slickness problems with grip tip that I have put on and removed several times. Matter of fact this is the only knife I have two of the same of. Maybe I will keep them both. They are really very very good carry knives that belive it or not don't seem to scare people when you cut something. Don't know why that is really. Food for thought though. Keepem sharp

First knife that goes in my pocket, as soon as I get out of the Govt building I work in, is my Carbon Fiber Police. Love that knife!

This story will make you Spyderco Police fans cringe. When I was in High School, over 10 years ago, my friend got a SS Police. One day he decided he'd throw it at a tree and try and make it stick. No more tip on that knife. :)

Nope, it never surprises me anymore, what morons will do with knives. What does surprise me, is that he was able to get the tip to hit first. Those stainless steel handled Police models are very handle heavy. One of my main complaints with the original design, and one thing I really love about the carbon fiber model. That, and the VG10 blade. ;)

big deal, heheh :D , i've used mine to throw, pry and chop. needless to say blade-length has decreased somewhat and both vertical and horizontal bladeplay aplenty! :)

I started to EDC a SE SS model back in 1989. In september 2002 I got my combo-edged Millie and I could get a good price for my Police model, so I sold it.
But a month or two ago I came across a SE Endura II, 2nd hand and as good as new so I bought it. It carries nearly the same as the Police and I find the tip sturdier.

I Carry a SS/SE model everyday in the front pocket of my DCUs. It is a bit worse for wear after over 10 months in country but still going strong. Most of the guys love it and the Iraqies are always trying to trade something for it. I have 5 more at home. BTW, I received this one in a trade from Glockman99 a couple of years ago, small world.

wow i wonder if its the one i swapped him several yrs ago lol? it is a small world......

I carry my SS/SE on a regular basis. I have always liked the knife. It is well made, solid and has always done what I needed it to do.

exactly, the Police is a great and cool knife. the only thing i dislike about it that it prominently says "Police" on the blade. it'd look better without the text (same goes for the Mili). JMO :o

I concur with dennis75. 86 the lettering. The discreet inscriptions on the ricasso that describe steel type, etc.; that's okay. But the larger "POLICE" is something you might find on a p.o.c. knockoff. It's almost embarrassing, mall-ninja stuff.
