Does anyone use a Travis Wuertz surface grinder attachment on their KMG grinder?

I do not have the space for the surface grinder I would like to buy. It weighs over 900 lbs, has a 12 SF footprint, and would require a power cable running across my floor to a 220 outlet. I think the perfect solution for me is a Travis Wuertz surface grinder attachment for my KMG grinder. I have seen his Youtube videos but have not seen the set up for the KMG. I would like to hear comments from someone who uses one before I buy the setup. Does the adapter come with the contact wheel and if so what is the hardness of the rubber and size of the wheel. I know most of you will suggest that I call Mr. Wuertz and ask these questions but I would just like to hear some comments from guys who are using one before I make a decision. I am not sure that I need a full size surface grinder but would appreciate some advice. Thanks, Larry

I watched some of the videos linked to in the now closed thread. Travis has made very cool attachment. It looks like a very versatile unit. I'd love to have one.

The package does not come with a contact wheel. He recommends a 2.5" wide serrated 90 durometer wheel.

Why don't you just give Travis a call? Good guy and straight shooter

Sometimes its easier to just ask here. I doubt that Travis has the time or inclination to field all of our insanity and given his busy schedule this seems more considerate. I tried calling him last Fall a few dozen times and never heard back from him, finally I just gave up and asked my questions on another board and had an answer to a few simple questions within a few hours. Go figure. :D

The answers are in those videos

5 inch wheel 2.5 inches wide, serrated, 90 durometer

The 5 inch wheel in the video fits a Bader 3 and Bader wheels have a different axle mount. Another video shows one of his own wheels in an 8 inch size. I am hoping to get comments from someone who has the KMG attachment. I have not found a more recent video showing the attachment. It may have some modifications...or not. I guess I will contact Travis Wuertz and ask a couple questions before purchasing.

I made a similar surface grinder a while back and used my 16" wheel. I don't think the wheel size matters greatly in this type of use, but Travis could elaborate for you.....call or email him.

The 2.5" wide wheel is a good idea to allow use of the 2" belt width by tracking it up and down. Having seen some surface grinding videos with stone wheels, i think I remember it being recommended that the part being ground at an angle. Is that the way is should be.

With the WMW surface grinding attachment, if you placed your part at an angle to ensure that the part covered the max width of the magnetic table, you would be using the full width of the belt.

His attachment is really slick, especially with the ability to taper with such ease. I also saw a video where he used the attachment to grind the primary bevels on an integral that he was messing with. Too bad for me that the cost right now is just a bit much. But some day.....

Take a picture of that. Sound interesting

I would like to see the attachment that you built if it is not too much trouble to post a photo. I thinks others would be interested also. Thanks, Larry

It was a prototype and not currently setup, so there are no photos. When I get the new shop up and running I will build it in permanently on one grinder.
A brief description is that it was a heavy duty equipment slide with a magnetic chuck mounted on it. The end was mounted on a hinge under the grinder, and the slide was elevated by a wheel and shaft. The slide was pumped back and forth under the contact wheel, and the billet was surface ground. The prototype worked OK, but needs some tweaking in the final build.
