Does anyone use or EDC a damascus bladed knife?

I don’t know if this count but I use my Shun Damascus chefs knife everyday and it’s really a great knife.

Love my Kershaw skyline. Just absolutely hate the pocket clip!!! Waiting to get a new one. Any ideas where I can find one without waiting 8-10 weeks production! Also, I have the blue and black stretch Damascus. Sick looking and great to carry, just clean and oil

I've carried many carbon and stainless damascus knives. They perform great but homogeneous steels are tougher and cheaper.

Dont get me wrong. I love the look of a well made damascus knife. I also feel that that cosmetics are always secondary to performance. Some makers will put hard homogeneous edge steel in the mix as a core etc. but for the most part contrast is the goal. Do any of you actually carry and use a damascus knife or are they relegated to display? Tell me where Im off...

I think for my EDC I'm always going to stick with a $70 or under blade, just so if something bad were to ever happen my whole world/bank account wouldn't be permanently scarred. And as a beginner this is more of a question than a statement but I kind of have figured out on my knife education adventures that Damacus is very nice, and very much more expensive than other types of steel. Probably because it's so damn beautiful.

I've had this one for years...carried it a lot for a while, then all but forgot about it. I've been carrying it sporadically again for the past 2 yrs. Admittedly, it doesn't get used a whole lot; but it does get used.

i personally don't feel comfortable carrying damascus myself. i read somewhere that the original method for producing damascus is not known, so I'm unsure of the authenticity

This 8-yr-old custom Alan Davis is in my pocket all the time when I am around the house. I use it every single day for opening packages and cutting plastic, plants, string and rope. Takes and holds a great edge and its 2.5 inch Alabama Damascus blade is perfect for around the house use.

My large sebenza 21 with ladder Damascus blade is one of my standard EDC when I can carry a large blade

Hi! I have two Mcustas in rotation (a Tsuchi and a Kamon Crest), "industrially processed" Damascus :). I love the look and they are really pocket lasers . Amazing cutters! Personally, I don’t see any difference in cutting performance compared to similar blades (size, thickness, edge, etc.). The outlook of these always put a smile on my face. I really like them and can only recommend one!

Like CM I've made and carried many Damascus knives. They can be users no doubt. Here castrating a calf. A toothy edge excels at ranch work and Damascus excels at toothy edges.

Fact at this branding 5 out of 6 of the crew were carrying Damascus knives.

Damascus knives are users no doubt.

I have one I bought off Etsy that I cannot get sharp. It is supposedly 1095 and something else. Beautiful knife, but the edge under magnification is toothed almost like a damn hacksaw blade. If you want it you can have it. I'll even cover shipping as I am so frustrated with it I just want it gone. Sheath too.

Some knives i use and some I baby and that goes for damascus and not. i have a little pendray wootz folder that had a little damage so i started carrying it and damn it cuts great. I have a little Christoph Derringer fixed blade, his own damascus, that I love for light use because it also cuts amazing, and both feel really good in the hand. I understand keeping the collectors pristine, but the stuf is valuable not just because it looks good. Enjoy your stuff while you can

Allow me to be the third person to discuss my Kershaw Skyline with a "damascus" blade. I "created" my Franken-Skyline with orange scales, damascus blade, and deep carry clip. I like the way it looks quite a bit, but I only carry it on walks because it weighs nothing. I virtually never carry it outside of that particular context.

If you want to talk quote-unquote "faux-damascus" with a homogeneous steel core clad with other metals, let me be the first to welcome you to the Mcusta Lover's Club. No company does that kind of blade aesthetic better at that price point.

It’s real Damascus on the outside with a vg10 core. I wouldn’t really call it faux damascus. Mcusta does some awesome stuff though. I have a Yoroi and a Tanbo from them and fit and finish is just outstanding. I have heard some complaints about f and f on some of their larger knives like the tactility, katana and bushi but their little damascus handled gentlemen’s knives are outstanding from what I’ve seen. Also I will say that I saw no problems with their larger knives at my local store.

I think they are largely underrated. These were some of the sharpest knives out of the box I’ve ever seen.
