Does blade coating affect action of a folder?

I'm debating between an all black para 2 and a black with satin version. I already have the camouflage scale version with satin blade and I was just curious, does a DLC coating affect the opening and closing action of a folding knife?

Ive heard that the coating on Benchmade's impairs the action to where they had to start removing the coating around the pivot area. Is that going to be a universal issue with coatings? Or are some better than others.

Some coatings are worse than others, but in general most coatings do impair the action a little bit. I have had multiple folders where the coated version plainly sucked in comparison but other models that only come coated were fine. I actually think I need to take the coating under the washers on my grip off because the action is terrible for a griptilian.

I never had a coating which covered the blade under the washers. Therefore I don't see how that could affect the folding function. Fully coated ones however might.

I have the all black para 2, and it is fully coated. It's action is extremely smooth! I also have the all black Benchmade 710 and no problems! For what its worth the spyderco black coating has been very durable so far:)

Are we talking about coated pivots or coated blades here ?

If the manufacturers don't coat the pivot area on the blade that tells you something.

I think a Dlc coating can, but not always, create a little drag. A dot of grease on the blade and a pivot adjustment usually eliminates the drag. Also a break in period should clear it up too, if any drag is present.

I have a bunch of coated blades from different companies and I find no problem with the action on any of them.
My best Para 2 is the coated one from Cutlery Shoppe. Great knife!
