I've been looking at high end automatic knives that on the manufacturers website and on other websites said were only available to military and law enforcement, but there was no message in bladehq.com saying it wouldn't ship to a civilian so I was just wondering if I could order something like a bench made 7505-132 on there or not.
Thanks!

I am guessing yes. The law and abiding by it is left up to you and they have a statement saying that on their site, if I remember correctly?

I have ordered autos from them and never had a problem.

not likely, you have to be a LEO, military,fire,EMS to legally buy a Auto knife...federal law unfortunately.

Do you happen to be able to cite something saying that? AFAIK no federal law says a civilian cannot buy or own them. However, there are laws regarding how their sold (particularly involving interstate commerce) and mailed (can't use USPS except for some exceptions like military) and where they can be carried (no Indian land for example).

I read on a site they require a letter from your leading officer proving your in LE or the
Military but I hope not I'm crazy about the 7505-132

I have ordered Auto's from blade HQ without difficulty. The 7505-132 hasn't arrived yet so you would have to wait. I've got the same knife on order @ the Cutlery Shoppe and am still waiting. Either will ship them to you without issue.

your talking of going into a brick and mortar store, he is talking online. I have MANY friends in LE, and Military. He will be asked for a letter of employment from military,police,ems, ect. Why do you think assisted opening knives had to be exempted from the switchblade law?

because switchblades are auto and illegal to own in most states.

One thing to take note of, you take your life in your own hands. If they are illegal in your state and you get caught with one, you are pretty much going to lose it.

Not illegal to own. Most states have a collector exemption. Carry and use is different however. Nobody has ever asked for any form of ID from me when ordering autos online.

From BladeHQ's website

8. Automatic Knife Laws & Assisted Knife Laws. The Switchblade Act, (Pub.L. 85-623, 72 Stat. 562, enacted on August 12, 1958, and codified in 15 U.S.C. § 1241–1245), as may be amended, (the “Act”) prohibits shipment of automatic knives across state lines, with the following exceptions:

(a) to civilian or Armed Forces supply or procurement officers and employees of the Federal Government ordering, procuring, or purchasing such knives in connection with the activities of the Federal Government;

(b) to supply or procurement officers of the National Guard, the Air National guard, or militia of a state, territory or the District of Columbia ordering, procuring, or purchasing such knives in the connection with the activities of such organization;

(c) to supply or procurement officers or employees of the municipal government of the District of Columbia or the government of any State or Territory, or any county, city or other political subdivision of a State or Territory;

(d) to manufacturers of such knives or bona fide dealers therein in connection with any shipment made pursuant of an order from any person designated in paragraphs (a), (b), and (c).

I've ordered autos before and didn't have any problems. It will depend on your state laws, whether or not you can get one shipped.

When I did order autos, I lived in Nevada. Now, I'm in CA so there's no chance of me ordering an auto here.

As I understand it, you can OWN them and POSSESS them, but only in your home. My friend buys MT otf's, but I can't really understand why. I guess it would be fun firing it while watching tv? But if that's all I was gonna do with it, I'd buy one of those cheap Lightning jobbies.

Yeah that's exactly right. Can't carry them anywhere here, though I think they're legal in some states.

Honestly, for my use they serve mostly a collectable role. They're a fun novelty otherwise. But, if you're in a state that allows legal carry, it's a valid option.

I'd just like to own a BM Gold Class auto (dual action) and have it in my collection.

But I don't wanna have to lie and tell some big made up story just to buy it online.

I'm in MA so I'm not sure of the laws about this. But in general MA is pretty strict and annoying with laws of this kind.
